Truly an amazing spot for Breakfast or Lunch…..or breakfast for lunch!! Our son goes to school at UND and The Hillsboro Café made for the perfect meeting place for lunch. We drove up form Fargo and he drove down from Grand Forks. The food was amazing and some of the best bacon I have ever had. If you are looking for amazing food and a great place to meet family or friends check this place out…….just note the hours before making the drive.

I don’t go to small town restaurants often. I decided to go to The Hillsboro Cafe tonight. Let me tell you…. ABSOLUTELY amazing. I loved everything I ordered. I couldn’t eat it all but I atleast had to try it and it’s so good. The staff was so friendly and helpful. I am very happy with my orders. Thank you so much for the amazing service and the amazing food. Everything was absolutely amazing!!!!

It was what I expected it to be. The only restaurant in town besides when VFW is having food. The door showed they are open tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday Friday closing at 2pm as of October 24,2025.
The server didnt write our order down so when it hit her that she forgot to put our food order in, she came back to ask us for our food order again. We only ordered breakfast foods and the table ordering lunch who arrived after we had already ordered our food, were almost finished when our food came out. I knew from the minute she wouldn’t write down the order that things would go wrong. Even if you believe you can remember an order, write the order down for your customer’s sake so they think you care. Just a tip as a former restaurant. manager. There was only 1 table and they were finiding up when we arrived, ao there theoretically should have been no reason it should have taken nearly 40 minutes to get our food, especially when the table coming in after you order eat before you **write down orders** I tip 20-25% always unless the server is a fault as I know servers can not change the kitchen, but I tipped 15% on this one. Honestly such a small town, I fear thats a normal tip, even though its not in bigger towns.
As for food, hubby loved his blueberry pancakes. My green chili omelet was ok. I did however, love my hashbrowns. They had a different flavor than most but definitely a good thing!

If you find yourself on I29/81 between Fargo and Grand Forks save your hunger for the Hillsboro Cafe. The atmosphere is relaxing, service is spectacular and the food is outstanding. My husband ordered the Everything Omelette and I had the 1776 Burger and Wisconsin Cheese Soup. For later we purchased Scones from there assortment of baked goods. Don’t forget to check out the wall of items you can purchase which includes the seasoning and sauce used on my burger.

The Hillsboro Cafe just opened, and I took my wife here for her lunch break. They had an artisan style sandwich and soup special that was very good. I hope as they get their feet under them, their menus expands (It is a little limited at this time). They currently are focusing on breakfast and lunch meals, but plan to include a brunch menus in the future. Atmosphere was very nice, and service was excellent.

Breakfast was good and cooked the way I asked. All the tables in front were full. My server did not check on me after my food was served. It’s a pleasant enough place.

I am working in town & was told to try the at Hillsboro Cafe. So today I had the Beef Sandwich w/ Mashed potatos & gravy. It was to die for with great flavor that was rich and deep. The roast beef was perfectly cooked. I will definitely be back and highly recommend checking this hidden gem of place to with great food, service & atmosphere. Well done guys !!!!
