I took away 2 stars for the place being what felt like was on the dirty side. There was also a faint odor that my wife and I did not care for, but it’s hard to describe (kind of like old greese). Our waitress was very friendly and she brought us our food fast (as soon as it was up). I had the highway diner burger that had pimento cheese and fried green tomatoes. I enjoyed the burger. My wife and daughter said that they really liked the homemade chips.

This looked like a really nice diner, so we stopped in to check it out. We got seated pretty quickly, and it didn’t take too long to get our drink orders in. Our waitress was too busy socializing to bring us our food. We waiting 20+ minutes for our food and it came out wrong. When our food was delivered, the waitress told me the cook had to go and kill our chicken. I guess that was her way of apologizing for the delay. The food was good, I will say that, but this isn’t a place to go if you want good service. One table came in and sat down and waited for about 10 minutes and walked out do to no one approaching their table.

It’s a shame this place is closing their doors soon. My speculation is the owners are looking to get top dollar for the property since there was no real reason when the announcement was published. The food and service was great!

Stopped around noon on a long road trip. Very convenient to the interstate and I was quickly seated at an open counter seat. I decided on breakfast and after almost 10 minutes, a server took my order. Coffee was good, one egg was over easy as ordered, one was almost over hard. Patty sausage was generic. English muffin didn’t go in the toaster until my plate was served, which I watched because servers are also responsible for bread/toast for the restaurant.
Convenience and price outweighed quality of food.

Staff was rude and unprofessional. Had to ask for our coffee multiple times. She didn’t write down our order and of course it got messed up. Fried green tomatoes on the burger were soggy and so was the bun. When she came by and asked what was wrong I explained and she said “oh sorry” and handed us the check. Extremely disappointed. Left hungry. Will not be back.

Cool place that is mostly enjoyable for its old school decor. Food is okay, no more. Portions are generous. I would not say that the staff is friendly but they are efficient and service is fast. When you sleep at the hotel just aside (Candlewood) this place is worth trying.
Edit: We went back to Highway Diner for breakfast this morning and the staff was AWESOME. Food was good and plates were generous.

I’m on a cross country road trip with my boyfriend and we have stopped at alot of dinners on the way and I have to say that this was the best diner experience we have experienced on our trip! Everyone was so kind and gave off such a homey feeling! Loved this place!!!

Excellent diner next to a harley davidson dealership. The food is great and my host for the day was comical and had me in stitches the whole meal. He ensured I was taken care of and kept my drinks filled. The diner is lively and I always enjoy stopping here when I’m in rocky mount. I hope to return soon.

Stopped here for a late lunch on a road trip. Really enjoyed our meal. The floats were yummy. Reasonable prices and great service. Our server Daelyn was super friendly and attentive. The outdoor area with the license plates on display was neat. The whole vibe of the restaurant was cool too. Would definitely return again if we’re ever back in the area!
