We love The Harrow. Genuinely home cooked food. Always lovely ale straight from the cask. Check opening hours on google maps or website. Cash only by the way.

Nice little pub very familiar feel, staff were lovely, we were given blankets and hot water bottles! Small but well-done menu. Everything we had was delicious, and I definitely recommend a visit. If you want to sit inside, I recommend you book a while in advance as there is limited space

Perfect country pub for good weather – since the interior is quite compact but the gardens are extensive. As well as serving local ales and cider the pub also has a menu of excellent and largely home made food. Very friendly and helpful staff. I almost feel like not recommending this as it’s the sort of place you don’t want to become TOO popular. During our visit we were joined by a very friendly robin after some free food. Lovely.

Real old school pub. Cash only. Limited menu. But what they do comes in BIG portions, and is delicious. Rare beef. Real stove. Book if you want to sit inside (winter). How pubs used to be before the chains grabbed the market.

I like old pubs, but this is something different. It’s tun by the same family for generations, so if you are into history, you will love this place. Food is locally sourced and delicious albeit simple, same goes for beers and ciders. Highly worth a detour off the beaten track.

Before you go you need to know one thing: it’s cash only! A traditional little pub with emphasis on doing things the way they always have. And a total gem for it. Famous it seems for its outside toilet block opposite. I only knew the pub was there because of the beer glass on the OS map and it was right on the walking route. I was early, and by noon opening time a good queue was forming at the door, a lively crowd advancing in years and experience and ready for their lunch had descended from far and wide. Inside is small (though I didn’t look in the “smoking room”) with a smokey old fireplace, but it has quite a large garden, front and side. The two ladies running the place are super efficient and they take your order at the bar and pour it out of sight. No idea what the lager was but it hit the spot. The quiche was very good with a vast plate of salad and a hunk of bread and real butter. The giant plates of soup also looked fabulous. Heartily recommend. There’s birds nesting in the roof above the outside seating and they’re lively and active, flitting about. There’s a zebra impersonator in the field opposite. They sell plants outside. Read the history on the laminated cards on the tables. It’s far from modern, but if it never changes they don’t mind and neither should we. Good luck to them.

The Harrow has a lot of character. It is laid-back and homely, with very generous servings.
I had a ‘lockdown quiche’ and bread and butter pudding, which are pictured for reference. In addition to the pictured quiche, they also provided a large slice of bread (which came in a paper bag since it couldn’t fit on the plate!)
In the garden, there are plenty of adventurous birds (mostly robins) eager to have a share of your food too- but only if you put some aside for them! They aren’t like seagulls that will nab your whole plate the second you look away.

Quirky authentic English pub. Two entrances, one to the bar and one to the other bar! , Open between 12 and 3pm.
Real fire makes it welcoming on a cold day, squish together on the benches and get to know the locals. Owners very welcoming, we sat next to their family members and had a lovely chat, been in the same family for 90 years or so. It was the chaps 80th birthday. Dogs welcome.
Homemade meals on the menu, we had rare beef sandwiches that were very plentiful, along with locally made wine (surprisingly good) and beer from kegs (again, very good). CAMRA.
The pub is filled with memorabilia, outside you could purchase plants for charity, you could even purchase old pennies! There are lots of nooks and crannies outside where you can huddle in your groups and enjoy the gardens.
Need to take cash as no cards taken, plus the toilets are in the building over the lane from the pub! Thankfully, the toilets have loo roll rather than authentic cut up newspaper!
Highly recommended, a very hidden gem that takes you back in time.

An absolutely charming, unpretentious, old english pub that has barely changed in years. The staff are so welcoming, and this just adds to the friendly atmosphere that greets you as you take a step inside. The food is non fussy but superb none the least, as is the beer. I highly recommend the oyster stout on keg, my “go to” whenever I am visiting . All this and a super cosy fireplace that warms your cold limbs in no time and just adds to the charm of this excellently run village pub. I love this place!
