I stopped here for the first time today. I was greeted by a young lady by the name of Robin, who was a fantastic waitress. She was attentive, personable, and hit the happy medium of checking in, but not so much that one detracts from the dining experience. So a rare 5 star service rating from me on that one.
The food was good! This was more upper tier food that you wouldn’t expect from a small town. I had the “paradise seared ahi tuna” which was good. Personal preferences aside, it was flavorful and tasted good. Personal preferences included, with seared ahi, less is often more when it comes to seasonings. I felt like the seasonings were a little on the strong side and overpowered the fish a little. Presentation was great! My sides were fries and coleslaw. The “spicy” fry sauce I found to be on the bland side, but it still had a subtle flavor that I enjoyed. The coleslaw was really good. It was one of the better coleslaw I’ve experienced. So a strong 4 out of 5 for that one.
Atmosphere….this is one that is important to me, as it can completely make or break a place. Lots of hard surfaces here coupled with music playing made for a loud environment. Some sort of sound absorption would make this a much more enjoyable experience. As is, I needed to ask my amazing waitress to repeat herself a couple times. It was clean, well-kept, and styled well though. I liked the trivia thing that was on one of the screens. So atmosphere- 3.5.
So for me, I’m rating this afternoon about a 4.3/5, and I can be a tough reviewer on the upper end.

We had a catering from The Handle-Bar and it was EXCELLENT. The food was colorful, flavorful and fun. We had people who had special dietary needs, and food was labeled and followed our customized menu. The presentation created a welcoming atmosphere. The team put so much care and attention into the entire catering – breakfast, lunch and snack. If you have a catering around town, this is the place to go.

The Handlebar was an amazing place for small town Kansas. We love to eat at the small family business eateries wherever we go and spend hours looking for a place whenever we travel. This one caught our eye with the very diverse menu. When we got there it did not disappoint! The hardest part was narrowing down what to try first. Everything we had was full of flavor and well prepared. The staff was also friendly and knowledgeable.

We had lunch here with a family of three. We were the third table to be filled upon arrival and at departure about half the tables were full. The mushroom Swiss burger was a solid five star, the shrimp poboy was good but not great, the mango habanero wings were very good although a bit on the medium side of spicy. Fries were good, beer was cold and the monthly mule was kick ass!!!! Service was acceptable.
Overall a very good experience and we will return.

We stopped by when passing thru town and were pleasantly surprised. Great atmosphere and very clean. Quick service and waitress was able to answer any questions we had about the menu. Restrooms were nice and clean also. Food was on point. Had great flavor and a nice wide variety of things to choose from. We plan to return in the near future!

First time coming and environment is very welcoming and clean. Everything on the menu looks amazing. We decided on the hatch green chili burger, brunch burger with twice baked potato and a pork belly appetizer. Everything was absolutely delicious! I also had a blueberry vanilla mojito and it was so refreshing! Our server Natalie was so attentive, kind and made sure we were informed on all the specials and loyalty program. 10/10 will visit again.

I hate being part of the “me too” crowd, but this little gem of a restaurant in western KS deserves all the accolades it’s getting. My wife and I were in Hill City visiting family a week ago and after hearing about this place from friends of ours, we decided to make the short trek to Plainville to give it a try. WOW!! While unassuming on the outside, once we stepped inside the place just oozes great warmth and a cozy ambience. We were greeted promptly by Vincent (one of the owners) and shown to our table on the patio. Our server Anissa was an absolute hoot and took great care of us the entire evening!! And the food…. my oh my…. the food!!! We’re from KC so we’re used to great choices in fine dining experiences but I never expected to find something like this in western Kansas. The menu’s soooo good it was hard to pick one item over another, but my wife and I finally settled on the Manhattan Filet. The steak was an inch and 1/2 thick, beautifully wet aged , tender, cooked to perfection, and served in its own juices – it was simply fantastic!! The sides were equally good. I especially liked how the brussel sprouts were prepared. I’m the cook in our house, so I really appreciate someone who knows how to make brussel sprouts the tasty dish it deserves to be – well done!! All in all you couldn’t ask for a better dining experience. Hats off to the Reif’s – you guys have really outdone yourselves. If we’re within a hundred miles of the Handle-Bar we’re stopping by!!

Very cute little spot with a really tasty menu with some more unique items! We got the country fried steak with mashed potatoes and onion rings and the blue burger with kim chi rice. All of it was fantastic. We will be back!
