Loved my pulled pork but my companion who ordered the sausages found them to be extremely tastless. I agreed upon trying. But the other food was quite good. Lovely short walk down the pier.

Formerly called the Beacon, which was a fun Summer gathering place with great views and famed Rum Runner drinks. Now operated as The Grove Beach Bar & Grill, the lakeside view & atmosphere remain and a big remodel is in the future plans. Don’t overlook doing a winter time visit, which is much more quiet but enjoyable.

The Grove has some excellent adds to both the menu & cocktail selections. The Old Traveller Manhattan is a very smooth aged whiskey cocktail with hints of vanilla and worth repeating. The Crispy Brussels appetizer was a creative and tasty plate of fried sprouts, cheese, & bacon topped with a nice chili glaze.

Service was friendly and attentive, especially during less peak time winter time visits. Glad to see the character of this iconic spot remains, plus some new foods, and looking forward to seeing what is in the remodel plans!

True lake front hangouts for food and drinks are somewhat rare around the lake. Many offer a “view” but nothing beats being up close with a sandy beach. For South Lake Tahoe, The Grove is it. We didn’t try the food but the items we saw looked decent. Instead we sat enjoying the amazing weather, views and a few cocktails. The drinks were well poured but a tad on the pricey side. Consider it paying for the view. Our service was great to top it off. We closed our tab once only to reopen it as we were enjoying the day too much to leave. There is plenty of parking with a fee to enter Camp Richardson where The Grove is located.

We came in on a hot and busy Sunday afternoon. We were told it would be 1.5 hour wait and it turned out to be 30 min. The staff was super attentive in trying to find us some shade as we sat outside. Once we were able to get some shade, the service and food were spot on. Love music added to the atmosphere but the shade covers at the beach blocked some of the view.

We had pretzel bites, burrata salad, fish and chips, salad, and shrimp tacos. Not to mention the Rum Runners. All were fantastic.

I cannot say enough for the service from the host to servers, 5 stars

The restaurant with a view. They have mirrors inside so if you sit in either direction will see Lake Tahoe. But what was amazing was the people and food. The server was so well spoken and nice that it felt like middle of some great city. And the food was also top notch. The server mentions what is special which is not written in the menu and that dish was really special. Amazing experience.

The Grove is located inside Richardson Park, so you’ll need to pay a $12 entrance fee to get in. That said, when I told the park ranger I was heading to The Grove, she gave me two $5 voucher coins to use toward food or drinks (one coin per item and there were 5 of us in the car). So in the end, I only paid $2 to get in! Definitely mention to the rangers that you’re going to The Grove—they might hook you up with a coin or two if they have them!

The service here is fantastic. The bartenders were upbeat, friendly, and clearly enjoying themselves, which created such a fun, welcoming atmosphere. We walked right up to the bar, ordered a Rum Runner (their famous specialty drink) and found a nice bench outside to sip and relax.

The location is unbeatable. Tallac Shoreline is just steps behind the restaurant, making it the perfect place to grab a drink and hang out on the beach. It’s also a great spot for families—plenty of space for kids to swim and play.

My only complaint is the price and inconsistency of the Rum Runners. The first time, we ordered the smaller size and loved them—delicious and totally worth it. The second time, we went for the large size and paid $74+ tip for three. They tasted overly sweet and oddly seemed to have less alcohol than the smaller ones. Definitely recommend sticking with the smaller size for the best experience!

Overall, The Grove has great staff, a beautiful setting, and a laid-back beach vibe that makes it a fun stop while you’re in Tahoe!

Great drinks and food, even better customer service. Morgan was a great server and Laurene made sure everything met expectations and we had a great time! The patio has a beautiful view. We will definitely be back!

I’m so glad I visited this incredible place—it truly felt like heaven! The views of the lake, combined with outstanding service, delicious food, and a beautiful ambiance, made it an unforgettable experience. We loved everything we ordered: the calamari, shrimp tacos, and salmon were all mouth-watering, and my child’s hamburger was exceptional too—nothing was average! You can choose to dine indoors or outside by the lake, which adds to the charm. The only downside is the wait time, but once seated, the service was quick. Our server was great too. I just wish it were closer, as we live in Sacramento, but I’m more than willing to make the trip again just for the food and views!

Honestly they got some pretty good food and portion sizes for the price. Even though it is quite expensive you pay for the beautiful views of Lake Tahoe. My friends had a great time highly recommend the fried fish it was quite good. The clam chowder also looked good but it does come in a bread bowl. Overall pretty good and there’s some other places nearby to get ice cream and such. Also the way they fry things is so dam good and the zucchini fries were great.

I’ve had some great days at The Beacon, but after the recent change in management, those days are officially over. Everything that made this place a local gem has been stripped away and replaced with a mediocre, identity-crisis experience.

The biggest disappointment was the food. They’ve tried to force an “Asian twist” on the menu that absolutely nobody asked for, and it misses the mark entirely. The execution was subpar, and the quality control was nonexistent. Beyond the flavors being off, the basics were neglected; we were served in dirty glasses, which is a massive red flag for any restaurant.

The service was just as weak as the kitchen. We waited far too long for simple requests, and the staff seemed totally indifferent to the poor experience we were having.

We came in expecting the classic atmosphere, great food, and the Rum Runners that The Beacon was known for. Instead, the fun was sucked out of what should have been a nice day out. The spirit of the original place is completely gone. Save your money and go somewhere that actually cares about experience and memories.
