We stopped in for happy hour and had a wonderful time. Such a cozy/quaint cocktail bar with some delicious food. Happy hour prices and portions were perfect for us to share some things. Highly recommend stopping in and trying it for yourself. This does have some limited seating so I would say this works better for smaller groups.

We are always n the lookout for something new to us to try out locally. Today we came to @thegroceeycocktailandsocial

I love that my hubby leans into my dietary constraints. Tonight he stuck to the vegan options available – without modifications! He found this place after about 45 minutes of searching locally and a few towns north. Essentially the idea of travel more than we have to was unappealing to me.

Social is a great way to describe the atmosphere – vibe is calm, upbeat, and positive. The staff lean into the vibe with casual clean attire that matches the social vibe.

We opted for the butternut squash curry with ‘shrooms, kale, and a light chopped hazelnuts topping. The heat was close to a 3 that I have expert other locations. It is heat but doesn’t burn. Lips have a slight tingle that feels good!

The curry had large chunks of well cooked squash, plenty of kale, and a few mushrooms. The chopped hazelnuts stayed crunchy until the last drop. And I do mean drop!

We also had the handcut Yukon gold fries – no salt. The plate was filled and they were fresh and HOT! It was hard to get my hands on a few as these are hubbies favorite potato .

They have a good selection of beer on tap, plenty of options for cocktails and mixed drinks of most any type. They also have fresh fruit for drinks which is nice to see. I had an earl grey tea with lemon and honey – deliciousness!

Worth the time and parking fees on the weekend to check this place out!

After reading all the good reviews, expected more. No table service, so you need to wait to place orders at bar (they do deliver food). Bartender was not friendly and seemed to be put off having to take our orders. Drinks and beer were good, just small for the prices. Sandwiches and mac and cheese were good but not exceptional. With construction in downtown, we drove around to find parking. Ended up in lot behind and ended up costing us $8.50 which is a rip off. Lots of other good places with full friendly service and easy parking, so most likely will not return.

Love love love this place! The food is chefs kiss. You can’t go wrong. Everything from their seasonal salad, burgers, and fried chicken sandwich is delicious. I always ask to add mamas little peppers on the burger and salad for a slightly spicy kick. all around DELICIOUS food!

I wasn’t expecting much from our first glance in; had kind of a dive bar vibe, not the kind of place I’d usually take my fancy Lady. Not *bad*, mind, just not fancy. No table service, order at the bar. 7/10 for ambiance.

Cocktails were *top notch*. I had an Emerald Canopy (punchy, pineapple forward), and my Lady had Pelennor Fields (like a smoked old fashioned, but a bit fruity), and both were excellent. I also had a rum punch, which was also great. 10/10 for drinks.

The food absolutely blew us away. I had the Grocery Burger with fries, and the Lady had Mac & Cheese with grilled chicken. Both were fantastic. We shared the Fried Brussels Sprouts, which may be the best Brussels I’ve ever had in my life (and I’ve had a lot). We finished with the Creme Brûlée, which was also great. 10/10 for food.

The space inside is pretty small; fine for a Wednesday, but it might be hectic on a Saturday night. Regardless, The Lady and I were extremely pleased with The Grocery, and we will for sure be back.

Bartenders and awesome here. Super friendly and knowledgeable. You can tell they love their job. Cocktails are wonderful but my favorite thing about the Grocery is the albums that they play. Nothing better with a cocktail than some vinyl.

The Grocery Cocktail & Social is a great place to unwind! I enjoyed their perfectly crisp French fries and a warm, flavorful hot toddy that hit the spot. The outdoor seating is spacious and perfect for summer evenings, offering a laid-back vibe.

The bartender was fantastic, providing friendly and attentive service that made the experience even better. It’s a wonderful spot for good food, great drinks, and excellent customer service. Highly recommend!

Decent food ( good creme brulee ) and interesting cocktails.
The location is on a downtown Vancouver corner which has mutated from several other businesses to The Grocery.
Prices a bit more than the norm.
Interesting decor with a nice relaxed vibe.

Yes my fellow adventurers! The burger was magnificent! It looked like a prop from a gritty noir art film. Beautifully constructed with color filters on the lens to deepen the somber tones and stabbed in the heart with a wooden spear as if it had been a vampire from the old country. Not cheap, but if that is not your first concern, it was an excellent production.

However, all is not well in the heart of Vancouver, it appeared to be infected by a kind of self satisfied complacence. The bartender/counter person moved as if up to his waist in warm maple syrup. With people in line he did not acknowledge them nor seem interested in them until he had done everything else but come up to the register.

Pleasant enough, except that he seemed to have Absolutely no urgency to complete one and then to move on. to a new task. I did not feel welcome. I suspect he may be quite good in his bartending skills, but it almost seemed that the customers were distracting him from his little meticulous process. There is zero hustle here.

The place feels stuck on itself, supremely self-aware of its own hip-geoisie. This is a place for men in their midlife crisis to bring other men and show off. It is not a place for what I would call good service. The burger was good, but not that good.

And now I should mention the fries. Fries can make or break a place as far as I’m concerned. It’s one of those things that places either do really well or they drag the establishment into mediocrity. These fries were beautiful. I mean physically beautiful. They looked like perfection, like an ode to french fries, but did not quite live up to that lofty appearance. There was little or no crunch which in my mind is a cardinal sin. The taste was not bad, but the texture was not great.

It is a quandary why they would pair such a superb hamburger with fries that felt so short.

If you wear Brooks Brothers shirts and drive a red sports car and like to go to lunch and talk about your summer home and your investment strategies for the future, you might not notice these shortcomings and you might think that this is the perfect neighborhood bar.

But if you are a Weary traveler seeking kindness and comfort, a welcome place to stop and ponder the universe… This is not it.
There are so many wonderful places in this town where you walk in and feel so welcome that places like the grocery confound me. Too self satisfied to remember the customer.
