I was worried when our waiter took his time coming to greet us. It was not busy at the time so that’s not a good start. We started with a couple small plates: fried oysters and tuna bowl. The fried oysters were cremated. Almost tasted like old fry oil was used. My wife (who rarely turns her nose up to anything) had one bite and let me eat the rest. The tuna bowl was the highlight. Very good dish. We wish that could have been tripled and was our only dish.

A very interesting place. Walked past this restaurant for years when I lived down there, and it was the only place with an open reservation time when we went, so why not? A very interesting menu heavy on the mushrooms, which we were very into at the time. Our waiter was absolutely incredible and may have been the best part of the meal, with great recommendations and nudges on food and wine choices. Again, I like the menu – lots of different choices of well-written and well thought-out and unique ingredients. I’ve never had caviar on a hash brown square anywhere else in Charleston. But the food sort of left us wanting for the price point. Caviar was probably my favorite dish. The cabbage was just sort of flat which is a real shame. And the gnocchi were pillowy but not memorable beyond that. The decorations leave you even more wanting…they need some serious sprucing up on the inside. Basically the only decoration is a cabinet of canned and jarred goods, but these should be all around the restaurant, especially with a name like The Grocery. Needs much more character! Overall, better in concept than it is in practice, I hate I didn’t enjoy this place.

We were seated right away and the wait staff was very attentive. Awesome atmosphere and some really cool signature drinks. The Grocery has the look of a higher end restaurant and we had a good time here. The steak tartare was better than expected, however the swordfish was rather bland. All in all we would definitely try this place again!

I took my mom out to eat for dinner and stopped here after hearing a few people talk about this restaurant. We were the first ones in once they opened and decided to take a seat at the bar. We started with The Dirty Green Tomato and Hemingway’s Folly for drinks. During my meal, I also tried The Spray Tan. Overall, we weren’t really into the drinks..just not a hit for us ‍♂️.

Recently moved to Charleston and The Grocery was recommended to us by a friend. It did not disappoint. The menu is unique and the plates and small yet well balanced and satisfying. I got the milanese and my husband got the steak. Both excellent. He especially loved the side potato. Drinks and service were excellent with a swanky Charleston atmosphere. Add the grocery to your list!!

Food here is delicious. Portions run smaller than other restaurants, but I appreciate that; you don’t feel obligated to over eat. We shared the beets, steak tartare, Bolognese and the tilefish.

Outstanding experience. From the freshly baked bread to the seafood pilau, we enjoyed all the plates! We also tried the steak tartare, roasted okra and fried oysters! All were great, but the roasted okra stuck out because I don’t typically like okra. The flavors/texture was on point. Also, it’s probably impossible to go wrong with dessert. We tried the peanut butter bar (my favorite), the peach ice cream and the coconut sorbet. Also nods to the coconut sorbet. It was awesome and my daughter loved it. She also loved the fresh squeezed lemonade.

Delicious!! This restaurant has a great menu with very unique dishes. From the wood fired peaches to the duck breast, amazing flavors and accompanying sides. Reason for 4 stars overall is the ambience was bland and the portion sizes were smaller than expected.

Our waiter was awesome and gave us great recommendations! We had the broccoli, sweet potatoes, octopus salad, and the pork. The only thing that wasn’t perfect was how long our food took to come out, and the amount of time between courses!

Every dish I had at The Grocery was well balanced and delicious. Our table ordered the fresh baked bread from Browns Court which was warm and the perfect texture, the American Caviar which is essentially Caviar with creme fraiche served atop tater tots, the beef tartare, the lowcountry seafood pilau which is served in a le creuset dish table side, and the churros that come with 3 different sauces. I highly recommend heading over to Cannon Street for this one! Also, they validate parking!
