We had a wonderful experience in the grill room!!
With a Smoked Old Fashioned and a well prepared steak, I’m not sure how you could have a better experience! ( Maybe 2 of each? )

Friendly staff that work well with each other even under high pressure!!!

Thanks!

I am SO GLAD that the Grill Room is open again! We had dinner here on a Saturday night, coming in a bit after they opened and were able to be seated right away. The ambiance is upscale, but approachable. Maddie was our server, and was fantastic! She made great recommendations, and we ended up getting the special, a steak dinner for two, complete with sides. We also got the bone marrow as an appetizer.

The marrow was great – my husband loved the mushrooms, and the relish was a perfect balance with the buttery and rich marrow. We had multiple drinks through dinner, and each was wonderful – the negroni was a spot on summertime drink. Dinner continued the already amazing experience, with a perfectly cooked rare steak (it seems like that is not as easy to find as one would think) with a lovely spicy topping, asparagus, and mini potatoes. While the steak and asparagus were great, the real show stopper were the potatoes. Perfectly crispy on the outside and melty smooth on the inside, with a truffle coating, i could have eaten only those and been very happy. We managed to find room for dessert, and despite being quite full, wolfed down the chocolate torte – DIVINE.

Overall, the service was great, with excellent suggestions all dinner, the drinks were wonderful, and the food was top notch. I am already looking at my calendar for when I can go back. Grand Haven has been missing an upscale dining experience, and I am so glad that the Grill Room can fill that void.

Walked in and seated promptly. We had our two children with us. Ordered drinks, they were out of the drink I ordered. I swapped it for something else not at all what the menu said. Our server brought some pineapple to add to it, didn’t want to complain but it just tasted like juice at that point. Took forever to get our food, steak came out very well done-instead of medium well. The salmon had no flavor. The lettuce wraps were just grilled chicken and veggies- More like a fajita with lettuce. We just ate and asked for the bill bc we were starving at this point we didn’t have time to ask for it to be fixed. We’re so disappointed we didn’t even get dessert. Only good thing were the kids meals, which should’ve been out before our meals. Benjamin was a good server, but I could tell there was some staffing issues.

The restaurant has a classy feel and is not too loud which we all 4 truly appreciated. Our waitress Jaylee was absolutely wonderful and tried very hard to make up for the under par food and very slow bar service. The Pan seared grouper was extremely over salted and not edible but they were kind enough to take it off our bill along with one of our desserts (much appreciated) The steak with rosemary fries was cooked perfect and tasty but the fries were a bit over salted in everyone’s opinion. The grilled salmon was plain but came with delicious rice. The white chili soup was excellent and we had no complaints on our 2 dessert – besides the calories…The Coffee was weak and not very hot, but it was a generous cup.
Last, they were out of various beers which was a bit odd for a Labor Day weekend. I’m giving this 2 stars based purely on the food. Again atmosphere was great and waitress service excellent. A few tweaks and it’s a gem of a place.

Great atmosphere: Below average food. Each of the three servers that we encountered were in soiled uniforms that looked like they had been retrieved from the hamper. The service was pleasant if not attentive. We ate in the bar area and the server was spread across too many tables. We ordered a pair of blood orange Margaritas. We had them a couple of weeks earlier on the Kirby side and they were fantastic. Tonight they tasted like air freshener. The bar manager offered to add a splash of OJ to fix it and admitted that they struggle to keep the mix consistent. He seemed sincere in his attempt to provide good service. The crab cakes were a huge disappointment. They had been re-heated and were soggy without a hint of crisp on the outside. The calamari appetizer was decent. The calamari were tender, but the canned tomatoes drug down a good attempt. The bread was somewhere between room temperature and warm. It had been frozen and reheated which gave it a mealy texture. I really want to like this place, It has a nice atmosphere and great location. K2 upstairs and cold beer are a better option.

I requested the Grill Room when my husband said we are invited to dinner by a company he does business with. I would have preferred to email them this experience but their site is down so it will go in a review. We arrived on time to find one of our guest at the table already. He had not been waited on.We sat and had to wait longer than we should have to get a waiter. I have dined here in the past and had great food and service. This was not what I expect for the prices. We finally got drinks and ordered a couple of appetizers they came we shared them around the table. The mushrooms were inedible, too salty to eat. he took them back to the kitchen and came back to report we were right and they would comp them or get us something else. Then we we ordered a bottle of wine 3 of us shared the bottle others got other drinks. The waiter removed all the other wine glasses. Hello more of them wanted wine with the meal, so he had to go get more glasses for the table. The service was lacking unlike when we have been there before. ( I find no excuse for this we had a reservation not like they didn’t know we were coming) 2 of our party were sick by morning after eating some of the sea food. ( one a pregnant woman) On the upside the steak was wonderful, and my vegetarian dish real good. The muscles for appetizer also very good. Service this night not so good .

Hoping to treat my bestie to a great experience but our server spoiled it. My companion is a type 2 diabetic who was having a low affecting his vision. I asked for a quick bowl of soup … it took a precious 9 minutes & a second request. It was finally delivered with attitude. We were not asked if we wanted another drink until the dishes were being bused. It’s an old favorite but so disappointed. LOTS of attitude.

Thinking I would support a local business and treat my wife and children to a fine dining experience, but this was a major disappointment.
Walking into loud music and our waiter showing up in sneakers, jeans and a tee-shirt was a sign of worse things to come.
My son ordered the Valentines weekend special, a medium well beef tenderloin with grilled shrimp, asparagus and potato.
The food arrived slightly cold, my sons steak was raw and cold in the center and it was covered in caned minced garlic. The waiter could tell we were not satisfied with how it was cooked and also commented that it was not cooked. We also asked for drink refills at this time.
They took the beef and returned it “refired” and still not medium well.
After that we only had seen our waiter toward the end of the meal and never recieved out drinks.
The manager stopped and commented that she yelled at the chef several times and swears that they can cook a steak. She went on to say that she would keep yelling at them.
They did credit one of our meals, but the experience was so bad that we will not be returning.

We had our annual trip to Grand Haven this weekend and went to the Grill Room Saturday nigh . Something is wrong with The Grill Room!! Service as fine, but the food has gone way, way down hill. 50% of the meals(from a group of 12) were wrong or tasted not good. Staffing is not as it should be and they run out of mushrooms on a Saturday night at a steak house! I really hope they get it fixed and back to their normal good restaurant!!!
