Magical views of the ocean from the top deck, the service was excellent, along with the food. I enjoyed my lunch and will stop by next time I am in town.
The Golden Lion Cafe in Flagler Beach, Florida, was opened in 1992 by Tony and Carolyn Marlow, named after Tony’s parents’ pub in London, offering a blend of British pub food (famous fish & chips with a family recipe) and Caribbean influences from their time on St. Kitts. Starting small in a former sandwich shop, it expanded significantly, becoming a local institution known for its ocean views, live music, and award-winning atmosphere, with their son Chris now co-owning the family business.
Founding & Inspiration:
Origin Story: Tony and Carolyn Marlow, who met in the Caribbean, took over a small, bankrupt sandwich shop in Flagler Beach in 1992.
The Name: They named it The Golden Lion as a tribute to the pub Tony’s parents owned in London when he was growing up.
Growth & Expansion:
From Humble Beginnings: It began as a tiny, four-table spot but grew to encompass the entire strip mall.
Expansion: The owners reinvested profits, eventually adding rooftop decks and transforming the space into the popular, multi-level venue it is today, including a second location, The Green Lion, in Palm Coast.
Key Features:
Food: Known for its iconic beer-battered fish & chips (using a recipe from Tony’s father), fresh seafood, and key lime tartar sauce, profits from which support local charities.
Atmosphere: A lively, beachside spot with ocean views, outdoor seating, live music, and a strong Caribbean-British fusion in its vibe.
Awards: A highly awarded restaurant, recognized as a top beach bar and family-owned business.

Had a great time here with our family of five boys. Our waiter gave us the time to enjoy more drinks before ordering food while we enjoyed the live music which was much appreciated! Reel of the visit coming out @bochnarbunch soon!

The $39.99 lobster meal is phenomenal! The fish and chips are great too. This place is a Flagler institution. Must visit. Right across A1A from the ocean.

Happy hour drink specials and oysters, plus a full menu of apps, sandwiches, pasta and other favorites. The Golden Lion has a completely new kitchen, and every thing is that much better. Plus the new pergola and paved parking lot make this a banner year for the lion growing up.

Golden Lion is truly a gem! Everything here is always fresh and delicious, and I’m amazed that after all these years, the quality has never declined—it’s just as fantastic as ever.

Their Fish & Chips is an absolute masterpiece, one of the best I’ve ever had! Crispy, golden, and full of flavor. Pair that with the breathtaking ocean view, and you have the perfect setting to relax and spend time with friends.

Great food, great atmosphere, and great memories—what more could anyone ask for? Highly recommend to everyone visiting the area!

Great place right on the beach. Laid back vibe, excellent food with large portions at very reasonable prices for a beachfront location. Great place to hang out and listen to some live music, have some fish tacos, and just chill! Wish we didn’t live 3 hours away but I guess that’s probably a good thing. If we lived closer, I’d go broke here!

It was a fun meal. My wife and I stopped here when driving down A1A on a beautiful day. Our server was a gentleman who was very friendly and attentive. My wife had a Margarita which she enjoyed and the food was tasty and served promptly. It was a lot of fun to sit on the upper deck and enjoy the ocean just feet away. Can’t wait to stop in next time down A1A. UPDATE: I’m back and Andy is waiting on me again. Awesome fun!

This has been my family’s favorite restaurant for years. The food is always amazing. My brother got married and had his reception here 11 years ago and we ALWAYS make sure to come by at least once every time we’re back in the area. Highly recommend. You won’t regret the choice.

This is a lovely restaurant by the water that has food, live music, gift shop and great beach vibes. The services is wonderful. When the sun goes down the breeze is fantastic. My husband and I dined in the upstairs area which just makes you smile. The reason for the 3 stars is my fish tacos were bland. They look delicious but had absolutely no flavor. The Yuengling on tap was warm. The wine was a healthy pour. As far as a place to go and hangout and have a good time, it is worth going.

We had a group of six and it was no problem. A little chilly outside? They closed sliding curtains, started up outdoor heaters and we were all comfortable.
Food was great, as was service.
It is a little pricey but so is every place beachside.
