Our waiter greeted us warmly right away and made us feel genuinely welcome. We started with cocktails, the Fig and the Plane and the Fig Fashioned. Both were strong and stiff in the best way and really well made.
We ordered the steak tartare to start. It was good but not the standout of the night. The real stars were the entrées. Our waiter highly recommended the flounder and it absolutely delivered. I ordered the steak au poivre and it was cooked and seasoned perfectly.
Overall, it was a perfect meal and the perfect start to a beautiful birthday weekend with my beautiful family. I would happily come back again.
The service and restaurant ambiance were also good. Our waitress was attentive and checked in with us regularly. One small but disappointing surprise was a so-called “staff fee” of $3.92 listed on the final check. There was no explanation provided, and I chose not to ask at the time so as not to spoil an otherwise pleasant experience. Still, it was not a welcome surprise.
We began our meal on a high note by ordering the puréed potato soup. Given that it was a cool night, this dish seriously hit the spot. It was beyond comforting, rich, velvety, and incredibly creamy without being heavy. The depth of flavor was surprising for such a seemingly simple soup. It was the ideal starter to warm us up.
For the main courses, we sampled a couple of their excellent offerings. The chicken thighs were outstanding. They were perfectly cooked, incredibly tender seasoned beautifully, and the meat was incredibly succulent. It’s easy for chicken to be unremarkable, but this was a dish to remember. One of our companions chose the turkey panini special, and they raved about it, calling it delicious and perfectly constructed with high-quality ingredients and a lovely side. A standout element that often gets overlooked was the simple but impeccable artisan bread served to the table. We all agreed it was fantastic; a crusty exterior giving way to a soft, flavorful interior, perfect for soaking up every last bit of flavor from our plates. The quality of the ingredients, even in the simplest offerings, shone through.
The service staff were attentive, knowledgeable about the menu, and struck that perfect balance of being present without hovering.
Overall, it was a truly memorable evening defined by excellent food and a lovely setting. The Girl & The Fig is more than just a restaurant; it’s a wonderful dining destination that gets everything right. We left already planning our next visit. Highly recommend!
The food was absolutely delicious. We started with the cheese plate, which was perfectly curated and paired beautifully with a glass of wine. My friend ordered the tomato risotto — phenomenal, rich, and comforting without being heavy. I had the fish, and it was perfectly cooked and full of flavor.
The service was excellent — friendly, attentive, and relaxed in the best way. You could tell the staff really enjoys what they do.
We didn’t have a reservation but lucked out with two seats at the bar (which turned out to be the best view in the house). That said, definitely make a reservation if you’re planning to go — this place fills up fast, and for good reason.
Overall, it’s a wonderful little French gem in the heart of Sonoma — quaint, delicious, and full of charm. Highly recommend!
