Reviews
During a recent visit to The George Tavern, I was impressed by the overall experience, from the extensive beer selection to the hearty food offerings. The atmosphere was welcoming and casual, perfect for a relaxed afternoon or evening out.
The beverage menu stood out immediately, offering a broad range of choices. From familiar domestic favorites like Miller Lite to imported selections including Japanese beers, The George Tavern caters to all tastes. The bucket of chilled beers, complete with fresh lime wedges, added a refreshing touch that enhanced the laid-back vibe.
On the culinary side, the food delivered on comfort and flavor. The chicken fried steak, generously smothered in creamy gravy, was a standout — crisp on the outside, tender inside, and paired nicely with classic sides like mashed potatoes and toast. The buffalo chicken sandwich was another highlight: crispy, juicy, and well-balanced with just the right amount of heat, served alongside a hearty portion of crispy, parmesan-dusted tater tots.
The only shortcoming of the meal was the corn side dish, which was served cold and lacked the same level of quality found in the rest of the meal. It was a small blemish on an otherwise excellent dining experience.
Service was attentive and friendly without being intrusive, rounding out a visit that felt well-paced and genuinely enjoyable.
Final Verdict:
The George Tavern is a great destination for those seeking a solid beer selection, satisfying comfort food, and a casual, welcoming atmosphere. A minor improvement on the sides could elevate the experience even further, but overall, it’s a spot worth visiting — and revisiting.
Service was amazing!!
The atmosphere was 11/10. We went on Friday night and it had live music, good drinks, the works.
Thanks Sarah!!
The best to go food we have had in the decade we have lived here! To go orders are not an afterthought here, they are happy to have your business and make sure everything is exactly how you want it. Bartender was super friendly on the phone, other places make you feel like a burden for calling. The food was incredible – flavorful, generous portions, best prices you will find anywhere right now and everything held up on the drive home, even the fries and nachos were still perfect! We assumed this was just a bar food kind of place but they proved us wrong. You gotta try it!
Both for dine in or to go service, the food order has been incorrect. Most recently, I waited on an appetizer for 30 minutes, only for a different server than the one I had ordered with to come by, confused, to let me know the order was never even put in. Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time this has happened to me here. The service here, at least if you’re there to eat and not just drink at the bar, has been bad.
The food finally came out, entrees and appetizer all together, and again, it was disappointing. The quesadillas are maybe 25% stuffed with fillings, the rest is just bare tortilla. The fried pickles are actually very good. The hamburger I had was very dry, despite being ordered medium rare. I have also ordered burgers and chicken tenders before to go, and it was the same quality. On top of that, the food is very overpriced for the quality.
It is a cool location and atmosphere, one I have been coming to for almost 15 years as it has changed hands over time, but unfortunately, this is a place that I’d recommend just to hang out and drink at, and skip the food.
