This place was featured on the Japanese TV show NHK [The World’s Hardest-to-Get-In Popular Izakayas]. Thanks to the owner-chef’s hard work and his brother’s support, it’s a beloved spot among Memphis locals. “Here, anyone can become a celebrity. It’s a tough, merit-based city, but if you work hard and overcome the challenges, a good life awaits. Come on down, and we’ll welcome you with the best music.”
The show introduced it as [The Place Where a Blast of Sound Shower Makes Your Soul a Celebrity]. Leonard,Do you welcome Japanese people too?

The food was excellent (especially the catfish and lamb), but what really made the visit memorable was how friendly and professional the team was. The atmosphere, service, and overall experience were all top notch. Highly recommend!

I regret going to this restaurant. I should’ve left when I saw this MAN with fake Long finger nails wanna be a woman being the greeter of this establishment. Later on after receiving an over charge bill of 93.00 made me felt like I was had. Cold air was coming thru the windows. But what got me the most is that I order a lamb chop pasta dish that cost 35. But peep this? They charge me for thr broccoli and the noodles that comes on the pasta along with a 20% gratuity charge plus 2.00 for water. I wouldn’t recommend a dog to come to this spot I should’ve left when I saw a CONFUSED MAN with those long finger nails met us at the door! A wanna be. 93.00 if I had know that they charge people for coming to GENRE I wouldn’t never wanting. But I look over that BIG RED FLAG when I saw that confused MAN! Never again.

First time visiting and will definitely come back. Our visit was on Taco Tuesday and they have Karaoke on Tuesdays as well. We were greeted immediately when we walked through the door. We sat on the outside however they have two other areas to sit. The DJ played all the hottest jams. The drinks and the food were 10/10. The food was so good we even purchased an extra meal Togo. The waitress had the best customer service it’s been a while where I could say the food, drinks, and service were good but this is the time. If you like a chill adult location where there is no ratchetness visit The Genre with your boo or friends.

They get all 5s in food, service and atmosphere. But I have to give an overall rating for their marketing. I have been here multiple times and the food/drink and service are amazing. And they didnt disappoint this times. Wings were so good and that lemon drop top notch. You are greeted very nicely by the security and escorted in to a sea of welcome in from behind the bar with smiley faces. The music is always a vibe. I’m on their email list so the last 2 times I have been there I wS totally disappointed. The first time I received a flyer which said Downtown Karaoke every Tuesday from 6pm to 10pm. We arrived right at 6. Maybe a little after. We really came for the food. However when we walked in the young lady greeted us and politely told us they don’t open until 7. I had already paid for parking so that wasn’t cool. This last time they advertised a celebration of the new year. Which makes you think there is an actual. I walked in and heard music. Went to the back and it was very lively but a private party. The owner said just go on in they won’t mind. I opted out and sat at the bar. Bartender made me the most amazing lemon drop. It is the 1 and only time I have ordered one and said this is too sweet and where is the alcohol. Neither of those could be said and it was still tasty. The other 2 servers were tag teaming and making sure I was taken care of. I think it tipped those 3 more than my actual meal and drink cost.

This was my first and last time visiting this restaurant/club or shall I say Club/restaurant. I appreciate these young men wanting to open up a business but learn how to run a successful restaurant. They have brunch but no eggs, bacon or sausage on the menu. They are serving high end dishes that absolutely do not equate to the prices. I had lamb chops, potatoes and waffles. The waffles were blonde, potatoes was diced so small and the lamb chops were the size of my thumb and they were hard and taste like a pork chop or neckbones (I couldn’t tell). The mimosas came in plastic cups I had to ask for garnish. We had plastic eating utensils. The owner/ cook came out with a very very wrinkled uniform. I made the best of the situation paid my bill enjoyed my friends BUT I WILL NEVER EVER RETURN Oh, the beignets were a hot mess It looked as if they were dipped in an extra batter and tastes As if they were fried in old grease. I visited this restaurant a week ago for a Birthday Brunch. Do not go to this restaurant hungry! Please eat before you go. I ordered the shrimp and Grits. I specifically asked the waitress the size of the shrimp. I was assured they were large,NOPE. I was very disappointed when the entree arrived. I had a huge bowl of Grits and 6 small shrimp which costed $24.99. I also ordered a soda. Which was $3.99. This soda was a 12oz. can of Sprite which was hot. I was given a small plastic cup to pour it myself. I began asking for lemons and I finally got them at 11:45 no exaggeration. I spent $29 +18%gratuity. So I walked away hungry and $35. lighter. I’ve spent more for lunch and or brunch and atleast left full.I wouldn’t recommend this place. Parking isn’t free.

I just ate the best catfish of my life today! I had no idea this was even here; it’s tucked away so tight. I was greeted by two very friendly staff members and ate at the bar. I can’t wait to try the salmon or the lamb next! The fish was perfectly seasoned, very crispy, and was perfect without any tartar sauce or hot sauce (it was offered, though)! I will definitely be back!
