A local favorite with reasonable indoor and outdoor seating. However I have never been to the lower outdoor seating that seems more spacious and with fake grass. Maybe a reserved venue area. There also bar seating inside and a bar outside. The place is not huge and can get fairly packed. Like a college bar scene than fine dining.

The Gavel was a bit busy on a Friday night around 7:00. We checked in at the hostess station and told it would be about 30-35 minutes for a table of four, so we got on the list and headed to the bar for drinks. The bar area was standing room only but the bartender was quick to take our order. Approximately 30 minutes later our table was ready. Our first time eating here so we decided to have appetizers. Nachos with carnitas, tater tot poutine, bone-in wings with buffalo sauce and mango habanero sauce on the side for dipping, and Devil on Horseback (cajun scallops wrapped in jalapeños & bacon with chipotle aioli). Everything was delicious. We’ll be back to try their entrees

Seating is inside and outside. We were able to sit inside right away bit outside would be a 20 min wait. Food was good but the steak tip portion was on the small side. Service was excellent. Very popular and cozy place.

We had lunch there and it was ok. The service wasn’t the best, the waitress never came over to check on us. Not once after the food got dropped. The food was good but it was not hot. We got the poutine tater tots for starters and they were not hot at all, barely warm. They were good though. Then the French fries with my meal were the same. Like they had been sitting out for a while. Pizza was good but also was not hot… The caeser salad was huge. Also have kids menu. Both menus had lots of options, something for everyone.

Date lunch with the hubby was a success. Pleasantly surprised by the broccoli and cheddar soup! It was made with a light broth rather than thick, cheesy one like I’ve had in the past. The stuffed haddock was pretty pricey but – wow – absolutely delectable!! Drinks were strong. Our server was sweet. We will be back!

One of the worst experiences I’ve had in a restaurant in ages. (And this has to be the worst review I’ve ever written.) As for service, it may have been an off night when the experienced staff all had the night off, but it was the most disorganized operation I’ve ever seen in a restaurant. Waited for quite a while for someone to wait on us and it only went downhill from there. 3 of the four orders were messed up in terms of side dishes and special requests (e.g., lettuce in lieu of a bun). Burgers were overcooked and tasted like preformed frozen burgers out of a box and my tater tots were only warm when served. Attempts to correct the side dishes involved multiple chaotic conferences between various staff. All in all, it was a truly unpleasant dining experience.
