The Gate restaurant and bar, located inside The Murieta Inn and Spa, offers American style cuisine for visiting hotel guests and area locals alike. The Gate follows the tenets of the “Farm-to-Fork” movement, sourcing from the local vendors and our own five-acre farm and state-of-the-art greenhouse. Nearby Amador and El Dorado wine country has taken over our extensive wine list, and the region’s craft beer scene is represented on our rotating taps. Let’s not forget our private bourbon collection and craft cocktails, featuring premium spirits enhanced with fruits, flowers and other botanicals from Angel Wing Farm.

I stayed at the Murrieta Inn & Spa for a few days and had the chance to try several dishes at The Gate Restaurant. My first meal was the steak frites with chimichurri, and it was excellent….great flavor and really well executed. The next night I ordered the beef stroganoff, which unfortunately didn’t land as well for me. The flavor felt a bit muted, the beef wasn’t very tender, and I found myself wishing it had a bit more richness. Offer some parm…please!
On my third visit, I tried the peri peri chicken. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect, and while the chicken itself was on the dry side and the seasoning wasn’t something I’d order again, the fried gnocchi and vegetables were surprisingly delicious and ended up being the highlight of the dish.
The atmosphere overall is fantastic….beautiful setting, fun energy, and I really enjoyed chatting with some of the locals. Even with a couple of misses food‑wise, I’d absolutely come back again to try more of the menu.

Classy vibes here and great live music if you enjoy singer songwriter style pop, jazz, and yacht rock. I loved seeing Clemon Charles performance on xmas eve. The food is excellent, a little pricey but worth it. Staff is attentive and it’s a good place to socialize or go alone if you just want to get out for the evening. They have a calendar of events online where you can see the musicians and performance dates

The hotel and spa are great! The restaurant is NOT. Started off our visit with a happy hour Paloma. The blanco tequila they used made the cocktail taste like dirty dish water. Thankfully, the bartender observed I didn’t care for my drink and offered me something else. She said the tequila is “smoky” and reminds people of cigarettes. She said a lot of people don’t care for it. If you get that much poor feedback on the drink, then why is it on the menu? Had dinner there later that evening. It wasn’t much better than a diner. Definitely not fine dining. We ordered spare ribs with pineapple slaw. Not a piece of pineapple in sight. The slaw was pre shredded bagged cold slaw mix and they added pineapple juice to the dressing. The Caesar we ordered had good dressing but the lettuce was pale and croutons were bland. Not a hint of golden from roasting them, no herbs. I’m guessing those came from a box or someone just cut up toasted bread. I ordered bucatini Cajun shrimp pasta with andouille. It was more like a Cajun bouillabaisse. My pasta was swimming in the tomato broth then smothered in green onions. I would say a 1/4 cup worth of green onions. The steak and frites was not much better. Fries were frozen. Steak was cooked okay but portion was small and the salad it came with was barely dressed. This restaurant should reflect the hotel and it does not. Or make it clear it’s a casual dining experience and not try and be something it’s not. And can someone please explain marking to the servers? Rib bones shouldn’t be left on the table with used silverware for the whole meal. We will definitely be back to the hotel and spa but will be going somewhere else for dinner.

I was excited about trying The Gate Restaurant and was expecting an enjoyable lunch. The hotel and restaurant are beautiful. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. I ordered the quiche of the day. It came with a side salad and fresh fruit. It took some time for our food to arrive but we were in no rush. It looked delicious when it arrived, the slice of quiche was a generous one. My salad greens were old and slimy, as was the fruit. The quiche was not fully cooked and had a runny center. I ate around the edges and it was very bland. It was a very disappointing lunch.

Beautiful hotel and restaurant!
Good breakfast and fantastic service.
I had a simple 2 egg and sausage breakfast. The eggs were perfectly cooked to my order. The sausage patty was great! A little pan fried crispiness on the outside and good ol’meaty goodness throughout. The potatoes were plentiful, but they weren’t exceptional.
A nice quiet environment in the morning to read a book or have some one on one time without the hustle and business of typical chain restaurants.
Thanks for breakfast guys!

I posted a rather mediocre review some time ago, but we just finished a fabulous dinner there tonight with friends. Although we sent one dish back to be heated up, everyone was delighted with their food. Apparently, their slow cooked prime rib on Fridays is extremely popular. My salmon was fabulous, not over cooked. The bistro rice dish had corn and green onions in it. Delicious. I also had half a wedge salad, which was also good. Not too much dressing.

Visited The Gate on Christmas Eve for Grandma’s birthday (party of 8). $90 fixed menu + 23% auto gratuity.
Waitresses were wonderfully kind, attentive, and did their absolute best to help.
Unfortunately, food fell short: medium ribeyes arrived bloody/red instead of lightly pink like we were told they would be, medium-rare was raw (still mooing), risotto undercooked and crunchy, chicken dry, halibut average, red velvet cake hard/stale. Brie starter and salad were fine.
Staff only comped one meal despite widespread issues. Kitchen execution was extremely poor for the price—especially spending over $700 on improperly cooked dinner. 1/5 stars.

Not only a beautiful bar but great service. This is a fantastic restaurant inside the Murieta Spa and Inn. Had the filet for dinner. Very good. The jus was a bit different than I’m used to. But tasty nonetheless.

Missing some of the usual local favorite dishes, as they continue to change the menu. But continue to receive great service, nice local wine selection and a well rounded menu.

The western bacon burger was AMAZING. I do order the pork on the side cause it’s too meaty for me. I’ll mix the pork with bbq sauce at home and make a second sandwich for the next day. Make sure to ask for ranch too!
