If you’ve ever wondered what it would taste like to eat celestial glory, the new Garden Restaurant at Temple Square is probably it. Located just steps away from where pioneers once hand-pulled wagons, you can now hand-pull apart Lion House Rolls — still so soft they could convert even the most skeptical carb-avoider.
Let’s start with the cinnamon roll, which, by Church standards, could feed a large family and a few home teachers. It’s enormous — like “Moses parting the frosting” levels of amazing. Bring your ministering companion to help you finish it.
The Soup of the Day? Inspired. It tasted like it was crafted by Relief Society sisters who prayed over the pot. The sandwiches come with chips — because apparently even in Zion we can’t escape that “Café Rio combo” energy — but they’re hearty, fresh, and genuinely delicious.
Don’t skip the salads — big enough to share unless you’ve fasted for two meals, in which case it’s personal revelation whether to order two.
Now the apple pie — bless it — is the perfect size for one person, proving that the Garden understands that some temptations should not be shared.
The environment feels like the Celestial Room of restaurants: elegant, and perfect whether you’re sealing a business deal, gathering the family, or sneaking in between conference sessions.
Overall:
Heavenly food.
Righteous portions.
Lion House Rolls that could start a revival.
Great for business meetings or post-temple dinners.
In short, five stars, or as we call it in Utah, five loaves and two fishes.
When I finally sat down to eat a delicious tomato basil, to my chagrin the soup was not tomato, but bacon potatoes.
I figured I’d just let that slide and started eating the soup. There I found a thick long hair wrapped around a piece of potato and that’s when I had enough. I called several times following the circuitous automated phone lines and was not connected to any one. I walked downstairs to speak with their main offices, lower level JSMB, and there was no one present and no way to get their attention to get help.
I love the restaurants here. The food tastes great! The service however was very much lacking , seemingly from top to bottom, and I don’t know if I’ll be eating there again any time soon (even though I work less than a block away.)
The atmosphere, decor, view, location, and food are strong 5’s. The service however, at least today, was not. Please address the issues so future folks will enjoy your incredible offerings.

Their Turkey Pot Pie is my all time favorite! The crust is flaky and buttery and the filling is exactly that—filling! I never come away hungry when I have their pot pie.
Their soups are good, comes with a delicious roll. My favorite soup is Loaded Potato, then their Cauliflower, then their Clam Chowder.
Their sandwiches were delicious, but a few months ago when they reopened after the pandemic shutdown, their recipes changed. Their prices also went up. I don’t get a sandwich anymore unless they are out of my first two faves.
The staff are very kind and helpful.
I also ordered the cheddar broccoli soup and it was amazing. Very creamy and cheesy. I dipped my chips in it.
I’m excited to have the Garden (formerly Nauvoo cafe) back!
Oh and the new design and layout is really good! It’s fancy and effectively designed.
Still waiting on a refund, BTW
