The Galley is a charming fish and seafood restaurant in historic Topsham, overlooking the River Exe estuary. With such a bountiful larder of Devon’s coast and countryside, our family-run team proudly serves the very best of Devon on a plate. We offer a select but confident menu with a carefully curated wine-list with recommendations for each course. Head Chef Louis Huggins lets the produce speak for itself, letting natural flavours shine through. Dishes are intense, clean and immaculately presented. There are daily changes to the menu, depending on local produce and seasons.
An upscale scruffy-chic dining room with exposed brick walls, serving a fish and seafood menu.

For starters we had the scallop and makrel, both were great.
Mains were good, the duck was worth the extra price. I would skip the veg though, as nothing special.
Dessert was good. The souffle was very impressive. They’d also swapped out one of the options for a special, which was nice.
Overall it’s really good value and absolutely no complaints. Service was very attentive and friendly.
Will visit again when around the area
The dessert was outstanding! I’m not usually a fan of sweet treats, but the dark chocolate mousse was simply exceptional. It completely won me over.
The staff were friendly, hardworking, and attentive, making the whole experience even better. A rare find in terms of both food quality and service. Highly recommended!
The food and service was outstanding ,
Burrata was refresh and clean , the stuffed squid was excellent ,highly recommended if you love seafood and a great view
“The setting is very cozy, the atmosphere is unpretentious but still formal enough. That gives you a nice feeling of a good restaurant.
Even though the service is not up to high standards: waiters are not paying attention to your table, dirty napkins and crumbs are left sitting there unless you point someone’s attention to it.”
The chef was doing a good job so I thought will give this place another try, and boy I was wrong!
Our reservation was at 6.30 and even though you have a proper notification sent to you reminding to leave your table at 8.15 they like to remind you about that the moment you take your seat. And that would not be a big deal if the next table to us with the reservation at 6.45 would have the same reminder. They did not. When I asked why our table of 2 – returning customers got it I got some strange explanation that did not make any sense. Apparently 6.30 tables would be discriminated every time for no reason. Just be aware.
My octopus was extremely salty and my potatoes were impossible to cut through. When I complained about it they suggested me a sharper knife…
I am done here. Sadly, not a place to come back.
The waitresses were so fun and attentive, the owner? Filled my glass as soon as it was empty!
Food was so tasty and really well cooked and presented.
If you are reading the reviews to see if you should go… you definitely should!!
Good food, good wine, ambience and friendly… what more do you need!
