We had lunch today, it was our first visit, though the place has clearly been open for over a year and has already built a following, as it was nicely busy. Peter ordered the goat’s cheese salad and I ordered the mushroom burger, and we were both thoroughly pleased with our choices. I sampled a bit of the salad and found it delicious, while the burger was full of flavour and really hit the spot.
The proprietor was incredibly welcoming and even introduced us to his colleague from Paris, which added a lovely touch—it’s great to see genuine French talent behind such a charming and well-run establishment. The interior has a distinctive French flair, and the display of tempting pastries only adds to the appeal.
We would absolutely recommend The Fungi Club to anyone. It’s a warm, friendly place with excellent food and wonderful service. Do support this lovely business—they truly deserve to succeed.
Warm wishes, Lyndon and Peter
Today was a sunny, Tuesday lunchtime and I chose to sit inside in the bar area for a change.
It was quiet at 12.15pm, but it soon filled up with lots of happy ladies who lunch, and some couples and small family groups. There was quite a buzz!
There is a quieter area at the back of the bar area, if you want a calmer atmosphere.
Nicole and her team were all very friendly and welcoming. There was a lot to choose from on the Menu and Specials. In the end I chose the Daily Special, which was a generously sized portion of Tuna Nicoise Salad for £16.50.
The fine green beans were cooked perfectly with a little crunch. The salad dressing was tasty. If you prefer your Tuna Steak to not have any pink in the middle, please let your Server know.
To follow, I had a Raspberry Tarte from the extensive, chilled Patisserie Selection. It was the perfect combination of a generous topping of fresh raspberries, atop some creamy, creme patisserie and a light, crunchy, pastry case.
When your Tarte pastry almost leaps off the plate at the first tap of the fork, you know it’s cooked perfectly!
Thank you very much. I thoroughly enjoyed my lunch. And I really appreciate your generosity and taking the trouble to put things right.
Good to see Michael in charge and keeping things on track and letting the service team know when things were sold out.
For the main course I chose Confit du Canard which was delicious and my boyfriend chose Chicken Chasseur which was quite good but far too hot to eat until it had cooled down.
Conversely we both chose TarteTatin with cream for pudding.
When the puddings arrived we were warned by the waitress that the plates they were presented on were very hot and to avoid touching them!
As we stated to eat the TarteTatin at best the outside was luke warm and the rest of it was stone cold. It was very disappointing to say the least.
When the plates were removed from the table another waitress asked us if everything was good regarding the food. We responded by saying that the Tarte Tatin was cold .The waitress said sorry to hear this and that she would tell the Chef accordingly.
It was time to pay the bill. The bill was handed to my boyfriend who asked the waitress what the chef had said? Her response was that’she hadn’t mentioned our complaint yet’.
The waitress then went to fetch the Chef who apologised admitting fault. After a few seconds he rather reluctantly agreed for us to be charged for one Tarte Tatin and not two.
We both felt after leaving rather deflated which was such a pity as it was a Birthday lunch which I assumed wrongly would take place without any food issues.
Sadly after this very disappointing experience we would not recommend the Marlborough Funghi Club
Thank you Iain M-D, a distinguished Marlborough resident, for recommending and for joining us for a large glass, to celebrate all “Old Georgians”. Merci Beaucoup to all of you…you are a formidable team
