Emily is a gem of a human. She gave us a couple samples of wine that was SO good. She’s very knowledgeable and passionate about the product in the store. So glad we popped in. We got three different cheeses and four bottles of wine.

The French Cellar is a bright spot for Machias. There is a dearth of fine wine and cheese shops in the area. This provides a much needed option. It also offers coffee. Staff are helpful and knowledgeable about wine.

If you love wine, beer and cheese you do not want to miss The French Cellar. We found some excellent local beers, coffee and some delicious cheeses. The owners are welcoming, friendly and very helpful. If you’re vacationing in the area, stop twice: once to pick up a few things for the time there, and again on the way out to take a few things home.

Picked up a 11 person charcuterie board for our holiday party and it was so beautiful and delicious!!!! Will be ordering from this incredible company from here on out . It took all of the stress out of the day and gave us all more time to relax and enjoy family time .

Betsy French, Proprietor, welcomed me warmly and assisted me with my search for a good Viognier! The French Cellar has a GREAT selection from boutique wineries as well as purveyor wines.
The cheese choices are better than the local stores…not as large a selection but some great cheeses! A real find for this “rural” area.

Great selection, condescending shopkeep. Her sarcastic comments at checkout: “Is this your first beer? Took forever to pick that out,” and “It was cute [watching you].” I’m 23. Young but certainly no stranger to craft beer. I was enjoying the selection and had $5.50 in cash I wanted to use up, gimme a break. My buddy I was with spent $30+ on a bottle of honey wine. We were having a good time petting your dog and looking around your beautiful shop. Should we have spent more?
I get it, maybe we look young but all that matters is we’re of legal age and conduct ourselves respectfully. You could have commented on the bottles we chose instead of your subjective view of our age or experience.
