The desserts are proper homemade classics – lemon meringue pie, rhubarb crumble, and sticky toffee pudding. Portions are massive, honestly some of the biggest I’ve ever had in a pub, and the prices are really reasonable.
During the week you can also order half-portion main meals, which is a nice option.
Everything we had was delicious. Definitely recommend!
Edited to add looking back at our ferry tickets…it was Saturday the 1st….still a lovely pub 🙂
He had a tuna sandwich with chips which he said was very nice, I ordered the Steak & Ale Pie & Chips from the Specials board – very tasty indeed, whilst next time I’ll try something else I’d also definitely have it again! Had I realised it came with its own allotment I’d of requested to the landlady to omit that from my plate as I don’t eat that, but next time I’ll know! To be fair the board didn’t mention the veg!
Having read other people’s reviews I notice few complaints about attitudes, food wait times and also about allergy issues – it’s a pub, not a 5-Star gourmet restaurant! If you ask stupid questions you’ll get an appropriate response I’d imagine!! It clearly states in big letters at each bar “We don’t do fast food” and also some allergy/gluten not free signs – so I see no point in complaining when you’ve already been warned.
It’s a country pub that does great home-cooked style meals for a reasonable price. I’ll definitely be going back.
The only thing that needs improvement in my opinion is some of the decor could do with freshening up. Although you can see they’ve made progress around the bar areas so getting there I’d imagine.
Each family birthday is spent here and this July another family birthday will be – I can’t wait!
I came here to visit on what was a different , but equally as wonderful of an occasion on Tuesday 10th June , a lovely catch up with old friends ( one of which I’ve not seen for 6 months – Roy standard who has also left a review ) – and was served by Claire M.
Instantly I knew where to take my friends for dinner locally when they asked me – it was an easy decision, that took me all of a second to make.
Where do I start -to review the evening…… Claire was efficient , friendly , personable , kind , professional, knowledgeable but mostly all heart!
The food as always was delicious , well cooked , the best selection around locally , so much to choose from and extremely generous in size whilst being incredibly good value for money.
The atmosphere is always warm, welcoming fun yet relaxed , a ‘ home away from home’
Thank you so much to the chef and all staff concerned in particular Claire M for another night to remember!
I can not recommend this place to you highly enough – I reccomend them to you unreservedly.
Even if you are just passing through make sure you drop in for a visit – you will not be disappointed!

The staff were friendly and helpful and we went for paninis (cheese and ham and cheese and tomato). I had somehow never had a panini in my life as coffee shop ones don’t appeal. My daughter said hers was the best she’d ever had, so high praise as she’s had many. They set the bar high for me, as it was delicious and especially as it comes with chips which goes straight to my heart. We were served fast as we missed the busy time, and was presented nicely.
The menu was great good pub food with a half menu available in some dishes (not vegetarian, but full dishes prob available) for those who want it.
I will absolutely go back to try the full menu/Sunday lunch/garden and I might have to fall in when I go collect the pottery in a weeks time.
Keep up the good work team. We really appreciated the warm welcome and lovely lunch.
