We love the Fat Squirrel! We are not local but make a point to eat here any time we’re in the area. There is some outdoor seating for use during the warmer months but we have always dined inside, it is one medium-sized open room with a variety of tables that makes for a community-feeling atmosphere. The decor is cute and quirky and provides plenty to spy at – we always spot something new on the walls! Because we visit somewhat infrequently, we have never had the same server, but have always been impressed with how friendly and personable everyone is – just really great hometown service 🙂 The food on the other hand, might not be what you’re expecting from this tiny spot in a tiny town…prepare to be amazed! For such a small establishment, the menu (plus specials) is rather large and provides quite the variety, with fresh and unique flavors. Multiple vegetarian options even!! (I am not, but appreciate that it’s not always easy to find in rural areas!) There are certainly your standard menu items (the burger is amaaaazing) but much of the menu provides opportunity to try something a little different. This past visit we enjoyed the pork lo mein dish (in two words, bf says “Savory & Yummy”!) and the smoked chicken ramen-ish dish which might just be my new wintertime favorite…so much flavor and depth! Portion sizes are always hearty and send us packing with a little extra for later 🙂 Whenever we do have room for a milkshake, it’s always an especially delicious treat! (I will note, milkshakes to stay seem to come with the “extra” shake in the mixing cup, so you get a bit of a bonus versus the to-go cup!) Our only gripe whatsoever is that the parking area can be a bit tricky when crowded, but it’s a minor thing to navigate in order to enjoy all the goodness inside! See you soon squirrel friends!!!

Was close by to a hike we were doing so we popped in and will definitely be back. Super friendly service and the samosa Chaat nachos were worth the stop on their own. Also loved my three onion soup. We venture out this way at least once a year and will now make sure to “fit” the fat squirrel in.

Found in Google Maps on our way to Latrobe from the Flight 93 Memorial. Patio area next to tiny parking lot and dining room to the side. Very surprised to be asked if we had a reservation. Luckily there was a table available. Noticed that others brought their own bottles of wine. We ate homemade lamb sausage bucatini and pan seared barramundi. They were outstanding! We then shared a caramel apple cheesecake and I feel like a Fat Squirrel. Will stop again if we come back this way again.

The food was amazing. I have a tree nut and a dairy allergy and they were ready to work with me. I felt very comfortable eating here (in spiteof my food allergies), which is a rare thing for me to be able to say.
The menu changes often which I think is fun.
I will definitely be coming back again and again!

The Fat Squirrel is an absolute gem. From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere feels warm, welcoming, and effortlessly inviting. The staff is attentive without being overbearing, and you can tell they genuinely care about the experience they’re creating.
The food is outstanding. Every dish is thoughtfully prepared, beautifully presented, and packed with flavor. You can taste the quality in the ingredients and the attention to detail in the execution. Whether you’re stopping in for a casual meal or celebrating something special, The Fat Squirrel delivers every time.
What really sets it apart is the consistency. Great service, incredible food, and a comfortable, lively atmosphere that makes you want to stay a little longer. If you’re looking for a place that combines creativity, comfort, and top-tier hospitality, The Fat Squirrel absolutely deserves a visit.

It was an awesome experience and the food is definitely different from other places
I just chose a undesirable choice. They made it right though. Dessert was top notch and wonderful. The workers ate extremely pleasant and helpful. A good suggestion would be to make a reservation. Parking is limited and very tight.

This self-described “ice cream & eatery” is way too much of an understatement! The full menu was fabulous, creative and unique in the area. I loved the chicken coconut curry (one of the 2 daily specials – it was hard to choose between that and the mushroom risotto dish) and a side of smoked beets. My friend had the pasta bolognese and fried grren tomatoes. We couldn’t turn down having at least one appetizer and the fresh peach tart with ice cream was worth stuffing ourselves — the portions are very generous! I wouldn’t say I was a “foodie” but I do enjoy healthy and interesting foods and The Fat Squirrel has a solid handle on that! I live out-of-state but would come regularly if I were nearby. Definitely worth a stop if you are anywhere near the area! Don’t be fooled by its unassuming exterior and decor – ypu will definitely find something you will enjoy.

This place is a hidden gem. The food was out of this world! Now I want to live there and try everything. Or just eat the cheesesteak mac & cheese forever. Ridiculously good!
