We had the nicest date night at The Eighty Six! We were so happy to be able to experience this incredible dining journey. Our waiter, Kevin, was so nice and explained the details of the menu wonderfully. We wanted a specific cocktail that wasn’t on the menu and he sent the bartender over to ensure we got exactly what we wanted. Jermaine at the door was so kind in making sure we got into the restaurant and settled in nicely. He continued checking on us throughout the evening making sure everything was up to par. We’re so thankful for his hospitality! Mario, Don and Chris were absolutely delightful entertaining us throughout our meal and providing context on how The Eighty Six came to be. Chris even treated us to a complimentary dessert/palette cleanser that was delicious. We absolutely loved The Eighty Six and hope we have the chance to dine there again!

Here’s everything we ordered:

Food:
The Eighty Six Waldorf salad
Caviar butter pasta (off-menu)
Maine lobster spaghetti a la scampi
The Eighty Six Cheesesteak
Truffle fries with house malt aioli
Corn pot pie

Desserts:
Pineapple (rum infused) – the Hemingway
Banana pudding (ode to Magnolia’s Bakery)
Lemon sorbet

Cocktails:
Champagne Pornstar
Fluffy Margarita
Mezcal Infante

10/10 across the board. This is the quintessential NYC restaurant experience. Cool speakeasy vibes, incredible cocktails, impeccable service and the food across the board beat my expectations.

Let me start by saying Sherief brought everything to another level. Superb recommendations and great vibes. Everything was paced out well with an attention to detail that really makes a difference.

We started with the croquettes and caviar, and the madai. Great light starters with tons of flavor. The 86 salad was really differentiated and an incredible salad like no other.

We had the 86 cheesesteak and the Wagyu steak with creamed corn and mashed potatoes. Plenty to take home and enjoy a 2nd meal tomorrow for lunch.

Will absolutely be back. Had a wonderful experience.

Came here at 4:15pm as a walk in. Don was at the door and helped us get a seat instantly(VERY RARE THIS HAPPENS BTW). Jermaine took down our info and proceeded to get us seated. Let me describe this experience as if you were here with me:

– walking through the curtains and you see the atmosphere; calm vibe, dimmed lights and semi-quiet. Everything is meticulously organized.

– We got the booth all the way at the end next to the kitchen(honestly, best seat in the house) in which we were extremely grateful for.

– As soon as we sat down, our waiter “Claude” properly introduced himself and made us feel at home. Charming, funny & very charismatic. He was well versed with everything on and off the menu.

FOOD & DRINKS:

– I ordered the whiskey sour with McAllen 12 alongside egg whites, a MUST have for whiskey drinkers. & Refreshingly delicious strawberry vesper(must have for the girlies).

– Ordered the famously delicious 86 Waldorf Salad to start off. Full of flavor and was instantly blown away by the ingredients. Then went on to order the Minolette Potato Croquettes(absolutely will recommend) & their famous cheesesteak for starters. 10/10 on all of it

– Entree was Bone in Wagyu NY Strip(mouthwatering delicious!!) alongside the corn pot pie .

DESSERT:

– Best Cheesecake in all of NYC(as a native New Yorker who’s been here for 26yrs i can say that!)

Thank you to Chef Randy & Nat. & to the rest of the team: Francisco, Matteo, Emily, Jermaine, Claude & the others… you guys were amazing in every aspect!

Final rating: 100/10 on every single dish & customer service!!!

Everything about this is NYC. No sign on the door and it looks a like an if you know you know kinda place from the outside. Stepping inside is old school vibes with art deco. A real fireplace really set the ambiance. To go with the cool vibes is some great food. Everything we had was fantastic. Some really unique items on the menu that are executed flawlessly like the French onion croquettes, cheesesteak and all the desserts. Would definitely recommend.

CHRISTOPHER THE MANAGER IS AMAZING. Nicest guy, so welcoming, kept checking in on us. He truly made the experience amazing and was such a pleasure to talk to. Jermaine and Dom gave us the warmest welcome, they were so sweet. Can’t get over how nice all the staff are. Claude, Mario, Yanick, Kaitlin, Sean all came over to say hello and take care of us! Can’t wait to go back. They really made this the best experience possible. Excellent food. The desserts were incredible.

My husband and I went to The Eighty Six on New Years Day. We couldn’t have found the more perfect place to celebrate his FDNY retirement while also welcoming in the New Year. From the moment we were at the front door and greeted by Don and Jermaine, who were so polite and charming, to our amazing waiter Kevin who thoughtfully explained every detail on the menu and guided us through one of the best meals we have ever had. Mario the busser was fantastic. The tuna/caviar appetizer, waldorf salad, corn pot pie, off the menu Wagyu steak, the make your own ice cream saucers and banana pudding to end, I am still dreaming of that meal. The cocktails were also FANTASTIC. The decor, storytelling of the history of the place, fireplace, everything was perfection. Biggest thing to note how accommodating, down to earth, and friendly the staff was. Such good conversation I wish we could have sat them all down with us for dinner. We had one of the best evenings in a long time. Thank you The Eighty Six! BIG kudos to the manager Christopher who kept checking in to ensure everything was perfect, which it absolutely was.

My boyfriend and I went on New Year’s Day, and I’ll be comparing every meal to this night. Jermaine and Don greeted us at the front, and something immediately felt different, no scripted welcome, just genuine conversation with people who clearly love what they do. That kind of authentic kindness is rare, and it set the tone for the evening.

We sat by the fireplace, incredibly cozy. Our server Claude was fantastic. Every interaction, from our server to the manager, felt like a conversation with people who genuinely cared about our experience.

They start with pickle service. I don’t like pickles so I didn’t try them, but my boyfriend said they were the best he’s ever had. After everything else, if I get back in, I’d probably try them. The Caesar salad had warm, soft croutons with a little crunch and pieces of olive. The cheesesteak was incredible, as was the filet mignon with au poivre sauce. When Claude brought the steak knives, he told us the history behind them, you could tell the detail that went into designing this place. The side of creamed corn pot pie might have been my favorite, but it’s hard to pick because nothing was a miss.

I was completely stuffed but didn’t want to skip dessert. Claude walked us through the options; I asked his favorite: the cheesecake. I’m a cheesecake girl. We got it to go, and it was perfect.

The timing was spot on. Everything came out in courses, and we never felt rushed. When we left, Don and Jermaine asked how everything was.

The prices were good for the quality. The food was amazing, the service impeccable, and the experience was exceptional. Getting this reservation was pure luck. I don’t know if I’ll get back in, but if you do, appreciate everything. Order all the things.

Nothing about this restaurant was anything short of 5 stars. We sat at the bar and Shawn the bartender was attentive and knowledgeable. The oysters were fresh with a delicious mignonette. The Delmonico steak had a perfect char. The Caesar salad croutons were warm and crisp with a soft inside. Unlike any Caesar I’ve ever had. The drinks were curated to our taste and adapted beautifully. History and ambiance are unmatched. All the staff were warm and professional. We took a risk as walk ins without a reservation and it paid off.

One of the best dinners we have had in a long time. Don greeted us at the door and Francesco took good care of us at the bar. The pasta dish was a standout that I’m happy we ordered. But you have to come for the cheese steak and the strip. 10/10 meal and really nice ambiance inside. Amazing addition from the Catch team.

One of the best meals I’ve ever had in 25 years in NYC. No hype, it’s just incredible food with exceptional, personal service in a legendary, uniquely intimate space with over a century of deep NYC history that the staff care about.

My wife and I are not VIPs in any measure of life. With politeness & good timing we’ve gotten to eat here twice now. If we can get in you probably can too. We’ve left both times feeling like we were at home but also on vacation, happier the next day for such a great meal and experience.

The food is somehow underrated. Head chef Vignola works these little miracles of taking something you know from growing up in America that hits your memory, then somehow goes beyond it. One of the absolute best must order dishes here is a small potato croquette. It’s technically perfect, somehow lightly crispy but not oily, with divinely rich mashed potato within. It tastes so good but also somehow reminds you of every cozy potato dish you’ve ever eaten in your life. Little hints of cheese and onion and even caviar then make it something new. It’s real, simple, so satisfying. I could say this about so much of the food here. There’s a handmade pasta with lobster so insanely good, exquisitely creamy but not overwhelming sauce with garlic and chilis so perfectly placed and the right amount of dreamy noodles, one of the best pastas in NYC equal to any of the Michelin starred pasta joints and it’s not even their speciality. The two steaks and a cheesesteak we’ve tried here were so perfect and run the range of every kind of steak you’d want. But the crudos and crab claws and especially a sardines on toast are just as wonderful. Sides and desserts amazing too. So good I forgot to take photos of most of our dishes.

As for hospitality, I’m not really fussy about service though I personally dislike sterile, robotic fine dining service. When a high end restaurant lets its staff express themselves while being so professional and on point it ties into how expressive the food is. I’m terrible with names but I think I remember most everyone we met here who deserve a shout out: Jermaine and Don at the door, Chris, Claude, Sharif, Yannick, Mario, and Leigh make this place feel extra special. They’re all interesting people who don’t miss a beat. The chefs on the line you can even say hi to and care about what you think. Then you add the room itself, its history, the fireplace, how there isn’t a single bad table in the room. Can’t believe they’ve only been open about six months. This is very different from Corner Store, far more intimate. The place the food and the room is freakin’ magic. They have done Chumley’s proud. A NYC treasure.
