The words “upscale” and “dive” bar don’t really flow off the tongue naturally, but when you do, it comes out of your mouth as “The Earl”. The shotgun-style bar, with minimal tables, a huge bar top, and an outside patio area where you can smoke seems to have a setting of a dive bar. With options like Hamm’s, PBR, all domestics, and Old Forester Shots on tap, it has all the options of a dive bar. As you step inside and see the atmosphere, see the food menu, peruse the craft beer selection, and then notice the house-crafted cocktails, you realize that this in not your typical dive bar.

The Earl is one of those rare places that hits the sweet spot between dive bar and craft beer hangout, without trying too hard. In the middle of downtown New Albany, it’s got a industrial interior with brick walls, rough hardwood floors, and exposed beams, that still manages to feel warm and personal, im sure helped by the Bill Murray mural and fridge shrine dedicated to him. It’s weird, it’s charming, and it totally works.

Their rotating lineup of local and regional craft beers is always on point. You’ll find something familiar like Country Boy, but also a few wildcards you’ve never seen before. It’s perfect for after work or a laid-back late night drink.

On a personal note, this is where I first told my girlfriend, now wife, that I was falling in love with her. So yeah, for all the cool beers and eccentric charm, and even Bill Murray, I can personally attest that The Earl is also the kind of place where memories are made and actually stick. Can’t recommend it enough!

Cozy place with a nice atmosphere to grab a drink. I’d bet it gets pretty cramped during busy evenings. Drink prices and variety were average. The draft list board was outdated so we had to regularly consult with our bartender to determine what was actually available.

Attended the Old Forester Legendary Bourbon Series event last week hosted at The Root by The Earl. What an amazing job The Earl team did organizing this tasting! Having Jackie Zykan leading us through the tasting of these amazing bourbons was the best! Mara is a rockstar. Scott Dickinson, Chef of 1816 in Corydon prepared wonderful dishes to pair with the bourbon. One of the best bourbon tastings I’ve ever attended.

Cassie, Brennen, Serena, and kira are all awesome behind the bar. Plenty of good nights spent with friends and familiar faces. Great karaoke on Thursday nights.

I couldn’t find this coffee shop online but saw they’re operating out of The Earl. Please note: this review is for Cultivator Coffee not The Earl.

That being said, wow! We loved Cultivator Coffee. The atmosphere was fun! Some places have a vibe that feels excluding. But I think CC felt like a place you could stay a while or just grab and go.

More than anything…they had a reasonably diverse menu for their setup. We got the Miel Especiada and The Comfortor. They were sweet but not overwhelming like a Starbucks drink might be. Good balance.

Anyway, go check it out, you won’t be disappointed by their hospitality and of course their drinks.

Visited on NYE, had a great time! They were out of the bourbon they used for their old fashioned, but substituted it for rum… GREAT IDEA. Will be back again.

First off if you don’t want people with kids to enter then don’t have the “Bites” in your title cause that confuses people thinking its a restaurant!!!

The drinks are nice. There are some colorful cocktails there. I like all the top shelf bourbon and tequila. The atmosphere is very sexy classy. They also have rotating taps too. The food menu was small and the seats at the bar were not comfortable for larger peeps. No worries. I get it.
The bar tenders are not very attentive.
