The Dutch Crown — Poughkeepsie, NY
Rating: ★★★★☆

In a town filled with dependable comfort spots, The Dutch Crown stands out by delivering rustic charm and deeply satisfying food in a setting that feels both lived-in and welcoming. The warm wood tones, and a convivial bar scene give the space a Hudson Valley tavern feel, while the kitchen leans confidently into Italian-American favorites executed with care.

The Food
The wood-fired pizzas arrive medium-sized and cut into six slices — ideal for sharing, though the flavor may tempt you to claim more than your fair share. Built on a sourdough crust, each pie offers a subtle tang, airy chew, and beautifully blistered char. It’s a crust with character: structured yet light, adding depth that elevates even the simplest toppings.

The classic pie balances bright tomato, restrained mozzarella, basil, and a dusting of parm, while the pepperoni version features curled, cup-and-char slices that release a smoky, spice-laced oil into every bite.
The breakout hit of the table was the hot honey fried Brussels sprouts — crispy, caramelized, and glazed with sweet heat that keeps you reaching for more. The seasoned fries followed the same fate, disappearing within minutes thanks to their perfect crunch and craveable spice blend.

Meanwhile, the carbonara delivers silky richness, coating al dente pasta in an egg-forward sauce with pancetta and a generous snowfall of cheese — indulgent without tipping into heaviness.

Atmosphere & Service
The dining room hums with neighborhood warmth: families, couples, and regulars at the bar create an easy rhythm that feels authentic rather than curated.
Service on this visit was slow, due to only two staff members managing the floor. Even so, their kindness and attentiveness never wavered — gracious, friendly, and clearly working hard to keep up with demand.
Verdict

The Dutch Crown succeeds by focusing on what matters: exceptional sourdough pizza, standout share plates, and a cozy setting that invites you to linger. Come with a little patience, and you’ll be rewarded with flavors worth the wait.

Don’t Miss: Sourdough crust pies, hot honey Brussels sprouts, seasoned fries
Vibe: Hudson Valley tavern comfort with Italian soul
Perfect For: Casual date nights, family dinners, and relaxed evenings with friends

This place deserves 10 stars and then some. Every time I walk in, Chris greets me like family, and it instantly puts me in the best mood. The food is absolutely incredible… the kind of Italian cooking that makes you close your eyes after the first bite. And the service? So personal and genuine that it honestly feels like home. Every visit is an amazing experience, every dish is perfect, and Chris is truly one of a kind. Couldn’t recommend this place more, it’s a gem! The amount of laughs I’ve had here are unforgettable! ❤️✨

Some of the most unique pizza in the area. Definitely one of my favorites Good deals and prices and the wings are fantastic. The only downside is it travels very poorly so if you don’t eat it in the restaurant you’re going to need the air fryer to heat it up

The owner Chris is a great guy! Had a pizza for the table and his bolognese for my self. Both were amazing. It’s been a regular since! Easy walk from the train station.

A neat rustic pizzeria with a simple menu. I tried the G’s pie and the lemon pepper wings. Both were really good. The people were really friendly too. It’s great to see new places like this pop-up in Poughkeepsie.

Our son recommended we try out the Dutch Crown and we were happy we ventured to experience their sourdough pizza! We tried their Drunken Pepperoni Pizza and we customized the other with meatball, onion & peppers. Both were full of flavor. The thin crust is a favorite of mine. I highly recommend you check it out. #freakinyum

I have eaten the pizza here before and it was always good, every time! This time though after I ordered the grandma burrata. I didn’t take a picture because my phone wasn’t charged, I wish I would have because not only did it taste bad, it looked bad too. Now, I’ve worked in many Italian restaurants over the years. So I know what good pizza looks and tastes like… Really bad pizza. I ate 2 slices and was going to take the rest home. I left it there half-eaten. It was that bad! And I’m sure the cook saw the half eaten pie returned to the kitchen.

The pizza was good and I enjoyed it. BUT…I would not sell it as “chopped cheese” it did not taste or remind me of a chopped cheese. Believe me, I was born and raised in the Bronx and know a thing or 2 about chopped cheese. Also, it was a tad shy on the meat(see pic) for the price I paid.
