Welcome to The Dunes Restaurant & Bar, a Nags Head breakfast and dinner restaurant with full service bar. We have been a favorite on the Outer Banks dining scene for the past 45+ seasons and hope that you will make us a part of your family tradition. Mornings, we specialize in big Outer Banks breakfasts. We’ve cooked millions of eggs over the years, so we know a thing or two about what makes a good meal! Plus you add grits, bacon, or homemade biscuits to anything and it’s the basis of The Dunes’ good Southern breakfasts. No one leaves hungry. Open Wednesday thru Monday for breakfast and Tuesday thru Saturday for dinner service will resume Spring of 2026.

We’ve ate here many times, it’s always consistent and great service. Never ran out of our beverages and she checked on us frequently. Food was very tasty and came out quickly. There is a good amount of menu options to choose from.

Good breakfast spot. Has a good vibe. Staff was attentive and kind. Omelette was good. Not an overly generous entree but it was good. Enjoyed looking at all the merchandise items they sell.

We really enjoyed this place. I had the crab and Jack omelette with grits and an English muffin. My husband had Farmer’s omelette which has ham, sausage, bacon and cheese. The service was great. The only complaint I had was I didn’t like the coffee, but I would definitely go back again. I also enjoyed the gift shop which had cute stuff and good prices. (Sorry about the picture, I was almost done with the omelette before I realized I hadn’t taken a picture. It originally went completely across the plate.)

This review is actually a 4.5 star review. First time here. Food was absolutely delicious. We tried several apps (fried green tomato, oysters mockafella, shrimp and crab dip). All apparently were a hit. Several of us had the fried bounty of the sea. The rest had the Broiled bounty of the Sea. For dessert we tried a slice of the cheese cake, coconut cake and the cheese cake. All were delicious. Thw menu has a good selection and tge portion sizes are good. Had a couple of the classic margaritas which were very tasty. The service was amazing, and every one was very friendly and helpful. The ambiance is very casual and relaxed . We will definitely return.

We had a nice dinner here here. It’s geared toward NC food choices. I’m sure any fried item is terrific. My broiled fish was good. Hush puppies were great with honey butter. The steamed shrimp was good as well, but a little messy to eat. The salad had pre done dressing that had been in the freezer and not thawed. Not any vegitarian items on the menu.

Went in for dinner at 6pm this past Saturday and should have been told at the door the LIST of items they were out of for the day. My husband enjoyed his steak however a handful of the fried shrimp I ordered were not deveined. Obviously I don’t mind spending $22 dollars on dinner but if I’m spending $22 dollars on 13 shrimp I expect ALL 13 to be deveined (that’s their poo incase you don’t know). The waitress was nice but we got tired of hearing the excuse of “being out of ABC.” Fried fish, coleslaw, etc also my cocktail sauce came in a plastic serving dish so was being out of honey mustard and ranch because you guys make it in house fresh daily or was it because your waitress was too lazy to pour some in a plastic serving dish? Hush puppies are a 10/10 though.

A great place for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. They turn around tables quickly at breakfast so the wait time are short! I had the country ham breakfast. It was great! Our server was in training but she did a good job. We will be back!! January 2026 update: We have moved into this area and are now only 2 miles from The Dunes. We plan to be here often for breakfast and dinner (when they re-open for dinner in the spring). Their wait staff is awesome and add to the enjoyable experience.

Great service got food fast. Books to buy for kid’s also toys for sale for kid’s.. Really big amount of food for the price.. Too people we ate for less then $35.00. Waitress was very good an very nice keep coffee on check an drink’s for all the family.. We will be back there every time we come down.. Great Breakfast menu really great on price of it an the amount of food was good..We found a permanent place to eat at when in town for sure..

Pleasantly surprised by how quickly we got a table on a Saturday morning. The omelet was quite a bit greasy and didn’t love that the pancakes soaked up all of the grease and flavor of the omelet. Coffee was good and they have great waffles!
