RESPECTFULLY INAUTHENTIC. The Manifesto We don’t believe in the traditional vs. fusion debate. We believe in the logic of flavor. The Dragon Room is a sanctuary for culinary escapism. It is our love letter to the East Asian pantry, written in our own handwriting. We have spent years obsessing over fundamental techniques—the precise funk of a fermented miso, the sharp snap of a noodle, the deep umami of a high-grade fish sauce—only to break the rules of how those ingredients are supposed to be used.We take the dishes you know by heart and rebuild them with aggressive intentionality. Why a bowl of Pad Thai when you can have the soul of the dish—the tamarind heat, the peanut crunch, the lime-slicked silk—condensed into a shattering, …

I only tried two dishes during my visit, and unfortunately neither stood out, though I’m hopeful other menu items may be stronger.
The pho was disappointing from the moment it arrived. The broth had a brown, hazy appearance rather than the clear, clean look typically expected, and the flavor leaned more toward a ramen-style broth than a fresh, vibrant pho. The noodles were also overcooked to the point of being very soft and mushy, which made the dish hard to enjoy. I wouldn’t recommend this item.
The bibimbap was somewhat better but still missed the mark. It lacked the variety of fresh vegetables normally associated with the dish and didn’t have the signature crispy rice texture. While it included rice and a fried egg, the pickled vegetables felt out of place and didn’t come together cohesively.
I’m willing to give this place another try because of the great atmosphere and service. That said, based on this visit, I’d probably avoid ordering dishes that closely resemble traditional Asian classics and explore more of their fusion offerings instead.
Con: Their dan-dan noodles is nothing more than udon noodles in peanut butter goo and sesame seeds. Very 2 dimensional in flavor, even though the menu adjectives make it sound tastier. Barely a full sprig of broccoli in the dish and lots of fried shallots to hide the lack of taste. The teriyaki chicken (dark meat) add-on was abysmal. How can it be nicely charred on the top side and yet undercooked on the bottom? Their “dragon sauce” is nothing but watered down gochuchang. Then came the pineapple soda… the juice has already started fermenting!!!
Will come back another night for a second opinion, preferably not for Fri or Sat dinner.
We got the Tamaki Crunchwrap, Fried Chicken, & Pork Katsu. The Crunchwrap has always been one of our favorites but it’s different- bland, slices of fish, not enough sauce.
I’m pretty sure the chicken is prepped, cooked & frozen to be refried because the batter didn’t stick to the chicken/crumbled and it was stone cold in the smallest middle of the chicken- but it was cooked.
The pork Katsu was just okay. It was already cut when it came to the table & it was room temperature. Once again, the batter fell apart. The Cabbage was drown in the ceaser dressing (which tasted great but was too much).
The Tamaki Crunchwrap was delivered last- which would be a cold side item so we expected to get that first.
Our waitress wasn’t super present so we didn’t really get to tell her our input- I WILL SAY there is a server who took our photo & delivered our food which has worked here for a while! She is a delight!
It wasn’t busy. It was a Wednesday night.
This was disappointing & I can honestly say I have no intention of returning.
Here is a photo of the Crunchwrap in the beginning of 2025 vs now
Edit: Service was fantastic tonight! Food was good & I was able to send something back as needed due to overcooked noodles. the amount of food for the price great
They have a diverse cocktail menu with a focus on tiki style cocktails. David behind the bar is absolutely charming and brings a flare and great vibe to the already cool ambiance.
The Dragon Room is a great choice for any occasion!
Tofu Bao, got dam noodles,
The food is built for sharing, which makes it easy to try a few things across the menu. The flavors are bold, the menu has a lot of variety, and it’s the kind of place where you can order dumplings or bao, add something grilled, and then finish with noodles or another shareable plate. Everything feels intentional, not just thrown together.
The drink program is a big reason to go. Their cocktail list is legit, and you can tell the bar takes it seriously. If you want a place where the drinks match the vibe and the food, this is it.
It can get busy, especially on weekends, but it’s worth it. If you’re looking for a fun, elevated night out in Columbia with great cocktails and food that actually stands out, The Dragon Room is a must.
