Hands down one of THE best deals/food around! Downtowner restaurant has full meals consisting of your choice of meat with three, yes THREE SIDES and a drink of your choice for $11.99. Food is DELICIOUS and always served fresh and hot. Definitely recommend this spot for down home cooked full meals that are delicious, filling, and easy on the pockets! Certainly worth the value! thumbs

Ordered food to go and wish they had told us that they were very busy. Our hamburger steak was delicious, but gravy was very light and there were no onions. Salad was fresh and tasty, fries were good. I had ordered a side of cornbread dressing and that was excellent. Was disappointed that no cornbread was included with the meal. I arrived about 20 minutes after ordering and had to wait another 40 minutes. Will not be ordering during lunch time again, but will go in person. They’re good people with good food, but not for take out.

The Downtowner serves traditional diner food along with classic Southern dishes. Prices were very fair but the service as well as the food is just okay. That said, it’s better than fast food so if you’re in the need of a quick bite, this will do.

Great atmosphere and friendly staff. And really awesome food, I had the 1 meat and 3 vegetables and it was the best food I had during my week long roadtrip. I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone visiting Selma. It did smell a little moldy inside and also it’s not in the best shape, but so much better than fast food chains.

Cool little Diner, street over beside world famous historic Edmund Pettus Bridge! Austere decor… because of historic location could offer so much more in historic decor and vibe. With a decorator’s touch and some historical memorabilia, could attract more return customers. Odd, they advertise as Buffet, but you get there, no Buffet…. you order off menu, a simple down home meal, meat and three sides. In my opinion, it could be ramped up to meet its historical location and significance in proximity to the famous Bridge to draw more tourist dollars $$!

My husband and I stopped in for lunch. Very friendly lady took our drink order. The waitress stopped by with not even a hello… took our order. My food came out at least 10 minutes before my husband’s. My chicken tenders were cold along with my squash and Mac and cheese. His chicken and fries were hot. Mine even colder with respect to eat with him. Never once asked did we need refill or how was meal. Got up to check out lady at register asked how it was. My response it was cold. She had NO response. Wow…how do they stay in business. Along with my husband said men’s bathroom was disgusting. Not a place I want to spend my hard earned money at. Waitress more interested in sitting at back table shooting the breeze than she was about caring for her customers.
