The Don Ramen Bar: Experience Authentic Ramen in El Paso
Reviews
Now on to the food. We had the takoyaki and fried spicy edamame as appetizers. We’ve had both of these plenty times before, although fried was new to us in the realm of edamame; it gives such a new element to the already amazing treat! It added a level of almost smokiness to it that I can’t quite describe, but I’m nearly addicted to now. The takoyaki, was the best hands down at any of the many, many places we’ve tried in several cities & restaurants. Honestly, we couldn’t even get a pic before we demolished almost the entire serving.
My husband and I got the Don Tonkatsu Ramen, both with shiitake mushrooms and only mine with the Hot Bomb. Amazing. Absolutely amazing. The layers of flavor really come through in the decadent broth, and the chashu is buttery soft, so flavorful, and just melts in the mouth. The shiitake mushrooms have a sweetness to them that I didn’t expect, but add another depth of flavor that compliments the tonkatsu broth so well.
Our eldest got the spicy salmon roll as her main, and we got the surf and turf to share because it sounded insane! And it was! Steak is grilled to order, and is juicy and flavorful, but doesn’t take away from the sushi roll itself. The spicy salmon was great too, nice crispy cucumber with the classic salmon and spicy mayo combo we all know and love. The salmon roll is the only thing I didn’t get a picture of, our daughter was far too excited to warrant having her wait for a photo lol!
Overall, everything was a 12/10 and we cannot wait to go back to try more! We don’t live close by, so we’ll be dreaming until we get back to EP for our next fix at our new go-to ramen spot.
What really sets this place apart is the ambiance. They clearly take pride in creating an atmosphere that feels fun and welcoming. It’s the kind of spot where you can have a relaxed dinner, a casual date night, or catch up with friends without ever feeling rushed.
Every visit has been consistent — great service, great energy, and an environment that makes you want to stay a little longer. If you’re looking for good ramen paired with top-tier hospitality and a welcoming vibe, this is the place. Highly recommend!
We also tried the Takoyaki and the Don Mussels as appetizers — both were amazing! The flavors were spot on and perfectly prepared.
The atmosphere was inviting from the moment we walked in. Vincent, the owner, greeted us warmly and seated us right away, which set such a welcoming tone for the evening. Our server, Josh, was incredible — friendly, attentive, and really made a great impression on us.
We left full and happy, already talking about our next visit. Highly recommend this place to anyone who loves authentic, flavorful ramen and excellent service!
The takoyaki features small and perfectly fried crispy octopus fritters with a nice dressing of bonito flakes and okonomiyaki sauce. These are significantly spicier than most tako in all the best ways. Served piping hot from the kitchen, these rival anything from Boston or SF.
The birria or Chuco Ramen features an elegant, clear beef broth with thin, chewy noodles, crispy meat, cilantro greens, red onions and all the air of a perfect street taco–but as ramen.
The Kimchi Tonkatsu Ramen with tofu has a sweet and garlic-salt broth that finishes smoky, topped with seared then flamed chashu, the usual suspects and a delightful crisped rice topping.
Vincent was a pleasure to talk with during the Monday afternoon lull. This restaurant is a family project and it shows in everything from the menu to the staff and the amazing art on the walls. The Sailor Moon mural is kawaii and moe.
Desu, if there was one thing The Don could improve, it is perhaps to show more obscure anime, at least sometimes. Owari da, A little Ninja Scroll or Expelled from Paradise never hurt anyone. This drops it from 6.294 Stars to a 5.
We will drive the 200+ miles again to try everything we ate plus the bao buns and perhaps the entire menu.
We both really enjoyed the flavor of both of our dishes and the portion size for the price was definitely worth it. 10/10 experience, I highly recommend coming here and when you do, ask for Valentina to be your server!
We order the steamed pork gyoza, the Don Tonkotsu Ramen with the Fire spice level, and a kid’s ramen with a the tonkotsu broth and egg. Both bowls were full of flavor and delicious! The gyoza was good too!
We will definitely be visiting again in the future! Thank you for a great dinner!
Oh, they also told us that they host Karaoke on Sundays!
