We stayed here and were genuinely concerned when we saw the recent reviews of the restaurant. We considered canceling our reservation and trying someplace else. Ultimately, we decided just to give it a shot. I’m glad we did. Our food and service were fine. Everything was well cooked prepared And our server was prompt and very helpful. The views were amazing and we had no complaints. Maybe they are turning it around? We had the soup for an appetizer, it was fantastic. I had the steak and my wife had the salmon. Both were excellent. For dessert we had a chocolate torte.

We had a wonderful dinner last night at the lodge. They had not one but two vegan dishes! As a vegan traveler I can’t tell you how happy this made me. Both dishes, a roasted cabbage with a coconut curry sauce and flatbread mushroom pizza, far exceeded my expectations. Both were delicious! The staff was amazing too. We really enjoyed are meal. What a treat. Thank you Sun Mountain Lodge!

Some food is delicious, some poorly prepared. The boulagnase had noodles stuck together and little meat in the sauce.
Service has been truly terrible on all 3 visits. Waited 10+ minutes at the host stand past reservation to be seated. Then listened to waiter complain about how busy he’s been despite their only being about 6 tables served by 2 people + another host/busser.
The view cannot be beat.
Final visit was Valentines day for a special Price Fix menu. In my wife’s words, they didn’t miss a chance to disappoint. Even with the limited menu and everything ordered at once we waited 30+ minutes between small courses that were mediocre at best. I do not recommend at all

Update from June 2025
Not sure what happened to this place, the foods were so bad comparing to 2024 and they also higher the price. So disappointed. ☹️

Amazing view with friendly service and delicious food. Although we needed to wait a little longer for our orders to arrive, the kind waiter offered us freshly made potato chips when we were waiting. Highly recommended this place and we will keep coming back.

Our group of eight waited for 45 minutes to be served, something we expected after our waiter told us how busy he was. The food, overall, was tasty, although some of the entrees were not warm. A 5 percent charge was added in order to pay employees “a living wage.” It would have been preferable to have just bumped up the price of the food by 5 percent. It was a cost that we would pay one way or another. Do grocery stores tack on 5 percent to pay their employees a living wage? No, they include it in the price of their goods.

Had a wonderful lunch here recently before our horseback back riding experience. The dishes we had (steak tacos and hot roast beef sandwich) were both delicious and perfectly cooked and presented. I had asked for a side garden salad instead of fries, but no tomato, and our server was very helpful with that request. When the salad arrived it was large and covered in fresh berries, which went incredibly well with the homemade balsamic vinaigrette. Don’t know if we just got lucky, but our experience with the food there matched the view. Wonderful.

Had the most amazing dinner here and a wonderful dining experience! The food was excellent, and my boyfriend said that the filet mignon was one of the best he has ever had (kudos to the Chef!) The view from the dining room was also stunning and it had a great cozy lodge vibe. Also, you MUST get the chocolate cake for dessert, it was heavenly!! 10/10 recommend eating here if you are staying in the lodge or even just visiting the town of Winthrop!

My wife and I enjoyed lunch here. We found the service a bit slow and maybe not as professional as you would expect in a high caliber restaurant but the food quality was outstanding. We had burgers, one with soup and one with Caesar salad. Everything was delicious and more than adequate portions. I asked for my burger to be more medium rare and it was cooked perfectly. Incredible views and cold beer made for a fantastic lunch.

This is a beautiful place to eat, while taking in gorgeous views. When we went, service was good, food was good as well. The lodge is always festively decorated in winter, with shops to browse in. Bathrooms were clean, staff always friendly.

I’m not sure what happened to this place but it has really gone downhill. When we first arrived to eat here, the floor was filthy like it hadn’t been cleaned in months and there was sticky food all over the menus. I ordered a French dip and a beer. The beer glass was so dirty that there was stuff stuck on the inside of it that you could see fizzing against the beer. The food was mediocre at best. Then to add insult to injury, they added a 5% “living wage” surcharge stating on the receipt that they support providing their employees a living wage. If you support that, then you should incur that cost, not pass it on to your customers. Don’t go here
