I wanted to give them a second chance because my first encounter was HORRIBLE: the chef had quit, the night shift was cooking breakfast, and it took 45 minutes to get our food. When we finally received our food it was cold, the grits were smothered in too much pepper and butter, the toast was burnt, and the pork chop was overly seasoned and too tough to eat. The service was great though! The manager was so apologetic and kind, which is the only reason I didn’t write that initial review and chose to return at a later date.
This encounter on April 1st was MUCH BETTER – 1000x better. The food was amazing: crisp pancakes, pork chop seasoned and cooked to perfection, fluffy eggs, and a nice moist biscuit. I deducted 1 star for food because I wasn’t a fan of the breakfast potatoes: the mini hashbrowns weren’t seasoned and I prefer actual diced Yukon potatoes.
The waitress was nice and catered to our needs since we were the only customers in the restaurant. I deducted 1 star because she left the dining area and never returned before we left. I didn’t have the chance to ask for a to-go box or hand deliver her tip. Also, my coffee was old and tasted burnt.
The atmosphere was pleasant: I enjoyed the board and table games, the music was nice (not too loud and offered a good variety), and the restaurant overall has an awesome train theme. I deducted 1 star for cleanliness – some of the areas like the drink stations could use a touch up. The lemonade and tea did not look fresh.
We came for lunch with two tables already sitting and had received their food. We played some of the table games they provide to pass the time after we ordered so we didn’t notice how long food took. But we did notice the couple behind us complaining about how the eggs were cold.
Our appetizer was the boudin egg rolls, semi disappointed they were out of the pepper jelly to go with it but it wasnt a major blow. The kicker was that the eggrolls were dripping in grease yet still a bit soft on the outside. Every bite made me feel sick, dripped grease, and the only way I could finish was to smother it in ranch. Our waiter didn’t bring us napkins or utensils with the food until we asked for it.
Any food you order will be COLD unless it is a fried component. I ordered the Loaded Locomotive with a side of potato salad. They were also out of the potato salad but I guess I got my cold potatoes anyway. The mashed potatoes and the etouffee were both COLD. Had they been at least warmed, even microwaved, it would have complimented the beautiful fried shrimp on top! It was so off putting, I only ate the shrimp and a few bites. My husband’s chicken fried steak was also served with cold mash. A huge disappointment for 14-16$ for each of our plates.
