Went here for my Dad’s 79th birthday. The restaurant was quiet because it was a cold rainy Monday evening in November. Despite this we had a great time. Just to point out this restaurant doesn’t have an alcohol license but sells soft and non alcoholic drinks. The biggest benefit to this is you can bring your own booze and the restaurant is happy to provide glasses. The best thing about our visit was of course the food. With all these fancy trendy Indian restaurants around you might think the food here is standard fare, it’s not. It’s way better than that. The onion bhajis were big and crispy, the best bhajis I’ve had in a long time. The other starters were delicious, really fresh. Our main courses, we all ordered different types from a huge mixed grill to a biryani and speciality korma. The thing to notice here, is these dishes were all prepared individually, all really individually delicious. Accompanied with fresh garlic and coriander naans and rices it was all completely yummy and we were totally stuffed, some of us even requiring a takeaway container. What was really nice was the complimentary cake for my Dad’s birthday at the end of the meal. If I could suggest one improvement, would be to whack the heating up a bit or stick a heater next to the table if the restaurant is quiet. A thoroughly enjoyable evening.

Came for the sunday banquet which is excellent value. Brilliant service as usual and we were also served by a waiter in training who did a great job. It was quiet but we came at opening so Im sure it picks up later in atmosphere

I visited on Sunday night with my partner and toddler. We went for the banquet, good portions, authentic flavour and service was really good. They have a kids menu so my baby was very happy. Took a doggy bag home end of the night. Will definitely be back.

Food and service is great here. Have been a few times now and could not recommend enough for a lovely evening meal with friends or family.
Staff are very attentive and accommodating of allergies. One of our group has a peanut allergy and the staff and chefs are more than happy to accommodate and switch peanut base for a coconut base.
Over my visits I have tried a few different main and starter dishes and I have absolutely no complaints! The mirchi chicken jalfrezi is unreal

Nicely decorated restaurant, friendly welcome and good menu selection. The food was delicious and the waiters were very attentive, making sure that we were happy with our food and checking if we needed anything else. It’s just worth noting that the restaurant is currently unlicensed for alcohol, although you can bring your own.

Orderd a takeaway as the menu popped through my door. Best Indians I have EVER had. The guy on the phone was amazing. I wasn’t sure if I wanted garlic chicken or keema so I asked him. He says “keema is really good and I can add extra garlic if you like?” SOLD!! Chicken on both dishes were soft and delicious. Our starters were gorgeous. Both meats were juicy and melted in our mouths. The dips are amazing. Now the nan oh my goodness. I love the burnt edges best bits for us. Did they deliver. HELL YES. Superb experience this restaurant is a must. You will not be disappointed

Not been to Indian restaurant for years as my two say they do not like curry! We have been going to Gosforth Palace so long we still call it Mr Poon’s! Persuaded them to go The Raj on Saturday night for a change and now I have two converts. Explained to staff we do not want curry or highly spiced, they confirmed food selection I had made fitted first timers. Really nice food and we were stuffed. Only downer was we like to go at tea time and it was near empty. But both agreed it was great food and we will go again for tea soon.

Ordered a takeaway from here for the specific time of 8pm. This was so i could feed my baby before it arrived. It came 2 hours early which was not only inconvenient but ridiculous considering I paid £3.50 delivery charge and this wasn’t met. It seems pointless letting customers pre order and choose a time slot if this is going to be ignored. The food was packed poorly and when I lifted the paper bag out of the carrier bag, the cardboard bottom holding the bag together gave away and meant the contents of the food spilled all over the kitchen counter. The food was also like warm.
