Our first visit to The Darling was in June 2025. We arrived just before happy hour and found a nice spot in the corner of the bar by the big windows. We ended up staying for the happy hour, at which point business definitely picked up.
I had a Bloody Mary and liked the flavors pretty well. The oyster options are pretty good and I really enjoyed the All Dressed Up oyster that I splurged for (since we were celebrating my birthday). $8 for a single oyster is a lot, but it did taste really good!
Our second visit was for a date night 12/20/2025. We were able to hit the happy hour but didn’t really take advantage of it. My husband tried the draft Negroni cocktail. I didn’t like it but I don’t like Campari. I had the London Fog but was unimpressed. I couldn’t really taste the lavender. We did try the baked oysters and really enjoyed them! Both the Alabama and the pimento are worth it!!

Overall it’s pretty good but with the drinks not on par with the food, it’s a solid 4.5 from me! Looking forward to our next visit!

Visited Charleston a few years ago & had enjoyed dinner at the Darling – was sure to book a reservation when recently back in town. Delicious freshly baked pastries seafood – what a treat. Highly recommend the shrimp cocktail – the cocktail sauce is perfectly sweet and tangy, great pairing for the shrimp. Only thing I would do differently next visit is sit at either bar in the main restaurant room vs the tables in the room on the left. Better ambiance in the room with the bar!

Enjoyed a beautiful Valentine’s Day dinner here. Condy was a fantastic server! He made the best recommendations, paced our food timing, and even went out of his way to locate a place in Savannah was looking for. Make sure you request him for the best experience! Food is amazing too, get the fish special. Thank you, Condy!

Great spot. Friendly. Considerate staff with Charleston charm location and atmosphere. The oysters were fresh and well presented with some interesting sauces.

This was my first shrimp and grits. I moved to South Carolina in 2018 and joked with the bartender about this being an initiation ceremony.

Slid in at happy hour and took a spot at the bar. Quick and friendly service for oysters, crab dip, and a green salad. James River VA oysters happy hour priced for just $1 ea. plus a nice mix of regional oysters. The crab dip is a must. The salad had a nice dressing with crispy bread crumbs mixed throughout. Carrots, radishes, cucumbers sliced thin so they add to, not overwhelm. My Negroni was quite possibly the best I’ve had, and my wife enjoyed the Pear 75.

Not just oysters, but a good and interesting full menu. Thoroughly enjoyed eating here. The food was great, The oysters of course were delicious, the service delightful and I even found a beer that I liked (not just overpowered IPAs or tasteless thin lagers!!) Would definitely dine here again.

Fantastic oyster bar in Charleston! The oysters were incredibly fresh, and the scallops were perfectly cooked—tender, flavorful, and honestly the highlight of the meal! The bartender provided great service and made the experience even better. Definitely worth a visit.

Really nice place in Charleston to get some high-quality oysters! Ambience is coastal cozy. I definitely go for an appetizer. I wouldn’t necessarily recommend planning on eating a large dinner here. I’d also say it’s more of a cute date night or double date place not necessarily wonderful for a big family or a large group setting.
