I go to the dark room often. I’m a creative and I go support other creatives when they have shows there. Yesterday there was a bartender there with the worst attitude. I tried to ask her if my fries had been put in yet and with a friend she relayed that if paid they were put in. I was trying to tell her that another gentleman took my order for the fries and gave me a number but I hadn’t paid because he told me she would ring me up for the drink. She just kept tell me if I paid then it was put in. She finally understood that I hadn’t paid and then told me not to have an attitude. She also came up to my friend and asked her “is there a problem”. I left the event early so that I did not mess it up by going off on her. She was so rude. Ive never seen her there before. Louis and Scott usually help me and they are very charismatic. She can never assist, take my order or anything. I brought 4 people to the event. We all left behind her rude behavior. She is standing behind Jas in this pic.

Went for the Rocky Maverick show 10/16 and it was my first time on this side of the venue. I walked in and the guy who greeted me looked at the digital ticket, then led to my seat. I just love the ambiance and the lighting makes it so much more intimate. I didn’t eat food, but definitely ordered a couple of whiskey mules that were strong and delicious! Shout out to Louis(the bartender) for his professionalism, but still able to mingle with partrons and bartend properly! Bathrooms were super clean, but inconveniently on the lower level lolbvs. I gotta say Rocky Maverick and his band left us with an experience to last a lifetime and I look forward to attending more shows.

I really enjoyed The Darkroom at its previous location down the street. I thought moving to The Grandel would be a huge plus since the building itself is so marvelous. Sadly I didn’t get that impression primarily because the bar is actually IN the lobby. It can’t help but be a little distracting with people coming and going through the doors. I do hear great things about the nightlife here, so perhaps it’s energizing with the late night crowd. The food was pretty good, but on my one visit to this location, I did not rate it highly.

I’ve been going for years, but the frequency has increased thanks to their dedication to truly support and showcase STL-based talent. There are some fabulous musicians and artists that come through this space, great bartenders (Jas & Louis), and the vibes cannot be beat.

Had the smoked salmon eggs Benedict and it was some of the best hollandaise sauce I’ve had in a long time, so rich with flavor. The eggs were cooked wonderfully and the fresh salad was a nice compliment. The music was great and the server did a good job considering she was left high and dry that day. Brunched with the ladies, but can’t wait to bring the husband back for Round 2.

Love love love this place. We usually go over after the Symphony for some jazz and a few drinks. The beer and wine selection are excellent, and we’ve never seen a bad act. Mo Eggston especially is wonderful. The food is good and the house cocktails are a bit on the sweet side, but it’s one of my favorite places to go and relax.

Really delicious brunch food. Dined here for dinner one night after the symphony @ Powell Hall (in walking distance) and didn’t have a reservation but was seated ASAP. The live band (jazz) was really great! There’s also an upstairs for reservations (parties, events, etc.). I would recommend The Dark Room for a date night or just a night out. Definitely worth it.

The music is good, drink are strong and the staff is nice… but I would advise eating before going. Food is not plentiful, there is a very limited menu selections (six items), on top of which, the prices for said food are slightly high. I personally paid $14 for just a cheeseburger the was only slightly bigger than a slider. And it did not come with fries. Overall, I had a great time here and will be back…. I’ll just eat first, lol.
