Popped in for dinner to this hidden gem! Meatloaf Monday night dinner special is so full of flavor. And by the looks of photos shared on Google we of course had to get the chicken fried steak. We shared the 4 veggie sides corn nuggets, fried squash, mashed potatoes & yesss the fried okra. They were out of rolls so toast was substituted & a very great substitute tasted more like an upgrade but now just has us intrigued to get a taste of the rolls!!! We’ll definitely be returning for many other menu items… catfish for sure & will make sure to save room for dessert & already making plans to try out breakfast menu items is a must! Oooh & the sweet tea… my oh my… refreshing!!! Such great positive vibes felt from the moment we walked in & were in ultimate shock when we were told our bill had been paid. Such a blessing. Prayers & thanks to the kind hearted soul of a stranger that gifted us with an awesome meal tonight!

Hands down the best chicken fried chicken with mash and Mac we have ever had. It was so soft with no crunchy over breading. Their burgers are homemade and a very great size for the price. We will definitely be returning again.

Overall, the whole visit felt as if the staff was caught off guard to have customers at all. I would skip this one and look for other options.
We visited on a Saturday evening around 6:30 and were told to sit anywhere. The waitress promptly took our order and brought our drinks, which started things off fine.
Around 6:50, she came back to tell us they were changing the oil in the fryer and that it would be a while before our food came out. That seemed odd, considering many of the dinner menu items are fried and it was peak dinner time and still several hours before closing. She did apologize and we said the wait was fine.
At one point, the waitress was yelling at the kitchen staff about the only other table’s fries not being crispy enough, which made for an awkward experience. Our food finally arrived around 7:30, nearly an hour after we’d been seated.
Just as we started eating, the waitress began sweeping under nearby tables and slamming chairs around right next to us, which didn’t help the already poor dining atmosphere. During our entire visit, we saw only one other table of guests.
As for the food: it was fine, but uninspired. Everything was edible, but nothing stood out or felt worth the long wait and uncomfortable environment.

Lucky find for us on our way out of busy Fort Worth. Small diner, but nice sized menu, would equate to an IHOP. Kids had French toast and pancakes for lunch, they loved it, we also had a burger and the chicken sandwich. Love the staff and the customers were very nice too. Wish we would have grabbed some pie for the road. Sorry the pictures were already nibbled on!

We stop at The Daily Special Cafe every time we come to Alvarado—which is often. Prices are reasonable. The Daily Special is popular with locals. It’s the food. Check out our photos to see what I mean. We always order breakfast (served all day). Based on how delicious their breakfast is, I feel confident the rest of the menu is prepared just as well. The decorations are from the “down home” design school. Lots of license plates, metal chickens, and coffee mugs. The Daily Special is in a strip center next door to Brookshire Brothers supermarket. Alvarado is conveniently located at the intersection of Interstate 35W and Hwy 67 about halfway between Fort Worth and Waco. Worth your time and money.

The Daily Special is a hidden gem!! Our server, Shanda, was amazing! She was helpful, cheerful, and kind to everyone there. The food was spectacular! My husband got the meatloaf special (on Mondays) and I got the chicken fried chicken. It was tender and seasoned just right. We didn’t get dessert but someone at another table liked the pie so much, he got a second piece 🙂 We may have to go back later for dessert!

The food here is amazing, and the staff is so kind, they once went Nextdoor for peanut butter for my birthday, however, the atmosphere was a little bit cramped but otherwise it is really cool, I like the collection of bottles and license plates.
