The first surprise was that it is a fixed menu of £52,20 per person for a plate of very average starters, a choice of main curry and a fixed plate of deserts. We had a bottle of provence rose and made the mistake of ordering a desert wine which as charged at over £10 including service charge per glass for 50ml ie based on £150 per bottle for a wine I could buy for £10-£15. The overall bill was £181 including the 12.5% they added to the bill as a service charge, for the two of us which was more expensive than any of the other six fine restaurnts we had been to for dnner in Saint Peter Port on our hoilday and sadly the worst food. For the price charged I would expect michelin star quality and having been to an indian michelin star restaurant this was nowhere near. The food was on a par with an average indian restaurant in England but without being able to choose what you wanted – very disapointing. Staff were attentive but clearly new and untrained. Decor was good if you are happy with colonial feel

My wife and I had dinner at the Curry Room last night. A set 3 course meal.
First of all, I would like to point out that the whole dining experience felt cultural inappropriate. The Curry Room is located in the Govenor Room which is decorated with colonial artefacts, weapons, soldiers and paintings of colonial battles. Each table has red ribbons on a white table cloth symbolising the St. Georges flag. There are no references to the origin of the food from India. Considering the surpressing and violent history between England and India, this felt very uncomfortable.
The service was friendly and attentative. The food overall was ok although we had to wait 1:20 hours between starter and main course.

Service was fine but food was utterly uninspiring and the room itself totally devoid of ambience. 5 star prices for 1 star experience. If this is the best they can do, they should honestly give up.
