I have been a patron of The Cub for years. As a 20 something I used to go there to play pool on week nights. As a 50 something I am enjoying is one of Shreveport’s staples when it comes to Steak Houses. The experience at The Cub is like eating in a fine pair of shoes, shoe box. It’s a tiny place rooted in history complemented by excellent food. I would expect nothing less than a 5 star for their food. Over time, the place has become a little dingy with the smoke stained ceilings and 50’s worn out fixtures. But, that’s what makes it “The Cub.” In front of The Cub was an awesome place called Murals. I hated to see that magnificent greasy spoon go. Such an awesome hamburger sit down joint. It’s now a Whataburger. Nothing against Whataburger, but Murals was a force of its own when it comes to burger food.

We ate at The Cub for the first time in a long time. We were very disappointed. We should have suspected something when we asked what was the fish of the day, the waiter had to see if there wasany left. It was not evenn 7 pm on a Saturday night. We were told they were out of bread when my husband asked for more. The new type of bread did not compare to the French pistolettes that were formerly served with real butter. The au gratin potatoes, which used to be a highlight of the meal, were inedible. They were extremely salty and tasted like they were cooked days ago. The usually wonderful cheese sauce, was replaced with something that was not at all what The Cub used to serve. Our fish and steak entrees were pretty good. The salads lacked the usual grated cheese and crouton toppings. The waiter did not offer fresh ground pepper, which had been a standard at this restaurant. We knew that there were new owners, but had been told what made the Cub great, would still remain. This had been one of our family’s favorites in Shreveport. They should restore the old standards. Gave it 3 stars for the steak and the vinegarette salad dressing, which were both as we remembered.

We had a reservation for 8:15 and when we got there we were Told it would be about 15 minutes and then we would be seated. We waited and then at 8:35 we sat down. After getting our drinks, it took about 15 mins for him to get our order! We waited and got our salads, then we waited some more but our server was not attentive to us at all. Actually was almost like he forgot about us. I needed a refill but couldn’t even get his attention to even get one! At 9:50, they finally asked if we had gotten our food yet, an hour after we ordered!! We we were very patient with them due to bring Valentine’s Day and everything being busy! we were at the restaurant for almost two hours and when it was finally acknowledged we didn’t have our food yet, they put it on the grill at 9:50 which is an hour after we ordered! We told them we didn’t want our food at that point and we left! We should have left way earlier but we were trying to give the benefit of the doubt since it was Valentine’s Day! I 100% will not be back!

I heard about this place from the guy at the bar. Decided to go. Service was great. The waiter was so nice and kind. Interesting place, not usual atmosphere. It is hard to explain but it is absolutely different feom other restaurants. I decided to go with steak, medium rare. That was a mistake. First it came rare, barely warm. They took it to cook a bit. Came back still rare but burnt. Meat cut was not that good, hard to chew. It was too much of the seasoning in my taste. A bit expensive place.

Absolutely a hidden gem!!
Let me start by telling you about the bread.. BEST BREAD EVER! It was a small loaf of freshly baked bread, cut crisscross, buttered, and topped with something similar to “everything bagel” spice, but better!
Then came my wedge salad. I don’t even like salad and I took it to-go when I left because the dressing was divine! The dressing, I don’t know what he called it, was creamy and heavily peppered. 10/10
I had the burger. It was cooked to perfection, the cheese was perfect, and the bun was so fresh! The fries were great too!
My bf had the steak. It was buttery, perfectly cooked, and so flavorful. Perfect!! And the pièce de résistance was the au gratin potatoes that came as a side. Besides my dear grandmother’s, these were the best au gratin potatoes EVERRR.
The restaurant was cozy, only a few booths and hidden off to the side of the bar. Despite being kind of inside the bar, there was no bar noise and the candlelight made it cozy and romantic.
The service was spectacular.
This may be my new favorite restaurant in Shreveport!! 10/10 on everything!

Very hostile environment.
Security guard assaulted my friend when kicking him out instead of just asking them to leave first. Horrible experience.
Kicked us all out when my friends wern’t even with this person and we were playing pool by ourselves not bothering anyone.
Never spending money here again tbh

First time having the Red fish formthe Cub dinner tonight, I was fantastic, nice crispy outside juicy and great flake. Pan seared to perfection along with the asparagus and veggies.

Really enjoyed dinner at The Cub. The Cub is a Shreveport institution that was founded in 1939. Cole, the new owner, is a Shreveport native. If you’ve been around awhile, you might remember his dad, the owner of Humphries. Either way, stop by and a have a hand cut steak for dinner. It is worth the visit.
