Whenever I visit an Irish eatery for the first time, I will order the fish and chips. It’s normally a good indicator of authenticity. In Ireland, fish and chips is always a cod dish. When my order arrived and cod was on my plate, I was presently surprised since most local restaurants don’t use cod. The chips were crunchy, too, just like in Ireland. My only complaint was with the tater sauce I received as it was mayonnaise, not tater sauce. I think I ended up getting the bottom of a homemade batch. I’d order again. My wife ordered the Guinness brisket. Let’s start by admitting that Guinness in the US is not the same as Guinness in Ireland. It would be nearly impossible to get the Guinness flavor of this Irish dish in the US. They tried, and while they did create a very beefy dish, getting that Irish flavor from Guinness in the US just can’t be done. I was pleased to see that they went a different way with the dish and added depth to the beef.
I’ll be back.
The atmosphere is very present and the pictures on the wall are Irish.
We started with a Scottish egg that was cooked perfectly with crispy out layer. The sausage was very flavorful and the egg was runny. The shrimp and grits were cooked with sausage and a few mushrooms. I would have loved a lot more. The shrimp were fresh and cooked well. The grits were creamy but not cheesy, which is classic but they did their spin on them. The fish and chips was classic with crispy cod and fries. I would like a little bigger, crispier chips. The smaller fries didn’t stay hot and were not as crispy as I like. We met Tina, one of the owners and she is delightful.
Definitely worth going back to try more dishes.
Another instance, I ordered takeout and had 1 item missing which was my beef wellington. And my filet mignon came with fries when I specifically edit my order to be mash potatoes. Came back 5mintues later and explained the situation. No questions asked and they prepared my missing order. I waited not too long. Probably another 5 minutes. I like the speediness of them fixing my order.
