The Crab King Restaurant – Mag Mei Adventures

We were in Steveston, Richmond looking for some lunch. As per many, we headed towards Pajo, the well known fish and chip stop by the water.

Stopped in today For the first time and had the softshell crab burger along with the onion rings. We also ordered the salmon, fish and chips. Soft crab burger, Crab portion Was much smaller than shown in the photos. A little bit to Oceany for my liking also. However, the onion rings and the salmon, fish and chips were excellent, Especially the salmon, which was very lightly battered just like I like it. Also, the tartar sauce is excellent! Service is average, our food came, and we were not checked on during our stay, but the staff did come by and clear a few plates and dropped off a couple of napkins after I requested them. The restaurant is located on the Barge, which is nice, but I feel that the interior needs a little bit of an upgrade – seems a little bit worn.

I recommend this restaurant. We stopped here as we were walking around Fisherman’s Wharf. The cook at the time was Cantonese. We asked for our dishes with a Chinese style. We got a whole Dungeness Crab, steamed oysters and steamed scallops along with a bowl of the seafood chowder (that was more American). The staff was polite. The food was fresh and tasted good. The inside of the restaurant was modest. Not elegant, but appropriate for the location off the boardwalk.

The sign got me, at lobster burger. I was quite excited. Husband ordered beef burger. The positives are, lovely quaint spot on the water. Nice beer. No one else was in the restaurant. I spent $30 on the lobster burger. I was very disappointed. It was deep fried in batter on a roll and way too much aioli and thing else. Could t really taste the lobster. Although mine was better than hubbys burger that was practically a Macdonald burger.

Stopped over for a quick lunch one day while walking around the wharf- we enjoyed our meal. With the Asian style fish & chips and yam fries. The service was excellent, very kind and its quite nice to be sitting near the water.
Would recommend:)

Thank you so much! The crab we ordered was so tasty. The atmosphere is the best in BC. You took care of our kid, provided the color books, toys. Thank you

I recently had the pleasure of dining at a cozy waterfront restaurant with a warm, rustic interior. The wooden beams and soft lighting created a relaxed, inviting atmosphere, perfect for enjoying a meal with a view of the boats docked outside. The space felt open and bright thanks to the large windows that let in plenty of natural light, even on a drizzly day.

The seafood was the star of the show. I indulged in a beautifully presented seafood platter that included scallops, oysters, and shrimp, all generously covered in garlic and finely chopped herbs. The scallops, in particular, were cooked to perfection—tender and flavorful, complemented by the mild sweetness of the garlic. The prawns were fresh and juicy, and the oysters were served with a slight tang that paired well with the overall richness of the dish.

To accompany the meal, I had a glass of Russell Brewing’s beer, which added a crisp, refreshing contrast to the savory seafood. The combination of the food, drinks, and the tranquil ambiance made the experience thoroughly enjoyable.

This spot is a hidden gem for seafood lovers, offering both quality and atmosphere. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a relaxed dining experience by the water.

Literally the best thing I have eaten in a long while. Been raving about it everywhere I can. People are under the impression the place is closed. No it’s not, they are open. Service was quick and easy. Good came out piping hot. The soft shell crab burger was EVERYTHING and more.the (whole) Crab was well spiced/marinated. The bun was soft, nicely buttered and a tasty compliment to the crab. TOP RECOMMENDATION!

Having tried fish and chips at other eateries in the Pacific Northwest we didn’t have high expectations here.
How wrong we were! The 2 piece was enormous and could have easily been a 3 piece. The fish was fried perfectly and delicately crispy with no drippy grease. The meat inside was tender and juicy and literally melted in my mouth. I could have eaten the entire fish had they presented it to me. It was so good that I will literally dream about it and hold all other fish and chips to this standard.
We also ordered the soft shell crab and chicken sandwich. Or should I say chicken tower! There was so much chicken! Juicy and tender and again delicately fried.
The crab was also wonderful. I could have decided the entire thing if I wasn’t sharing.
I don’t know what their secret is but delicate, flaky, tender and juicy should be their motto.
I wish I lived closer. This place is very reasonably priced.

*You may have seen this review in Yelp too. It’s because it’s mine and I copy and pasted it here.

I have been to this restaurant twice, and each time I had different dishes. I can confidently say that their seafood is very delicious, and their prices are reasonable. If you visit Steveston Wharf, don’t miss out on this restaurant.
