We visit friends in Franklin NC every year and took a trip down to Clayton as we were visiting waterfalls. The Clayton Cafe is a great place to stop in for a quick bite. All of our food was amazing but I was blown away by the fried chicken sandwich. Hot, crispy, juicy, tender, well seasoned, and LARGE! Definitely one of the best chicken sandwiches I’ve ever had. Come with a big appetite or enjoy your leftovers later. The staff was great and took great care of us. The restaurant as a whole was just outstanding and we will make this a yearly stop. Thank you Clayton Cafe!!!!

This quaint Cafe has a great history. Opened in 1931 in a building that first served as the local Trailways Bus station, the Clayton Cafe is the landmark eatery in Clayton. Friendly service, hometown vibe.

My family has been coming here for years and has always loved the food. However, this year was a bit disappointing. The restaurant was ice cold, and they have changed the mac and cheese, which used to be delicious. All four members of my family agreed that it was some of the worst mac and cheese we have had. Overall, I would recommend the cafe, but I hope management will address these two issues.

joined the waitlist online via toast for 2 people and host told us there were 2 parties in front of us and that we would get a text when the table was ready. ended up waiting over an hour and never received a text. went back to the host and she acted like she never knew we were on the list waiting on a table and immediately seated us. there was so many other people that had the same experience as us just waiting forever for a table. then I bit into my omelette and found a piece of plastic. at least our server was nice and took it off our bill. the food was okay, i didnt finish my meal

Stopped for lunch. Food was not very good, they were very kind and refunded us. The breakfast looked good and we probably should’ve ordered that. Chicken and dumplings was more like a chicken stew with no dumplings, just veggies and chicken. If that’s the way it normally is maybe consider calling it something else. No flavor to the lima beans and the casserole of the day was not good. However, the fried green tomatoes were very good, I would get those again. And the corn muffins were good. Hubs said his chicken tenders were over cooked. I can’t say I recommend any of the chicken dishes, but service was great. Try breakfast or maybe a sandwich or burger. I appreciated them offering a refund for the chicken and dumplings especially at $17.99, hate to pay a high price for something not good. If we pass through again, I’ll try them for breakfast.

Great location. The place is small but not in a bad way. Service by our server was a bit to be desired because we had to remind her that we needed extra napkins. Another server that helped the table next to us did an incredible job, was friendly and came back to his table several times to make sure they didn’t need anything. We make ask to sit in his section next time. The food was good but found it odd that it was served in what I related to dog dishes. Kind of hard to cut certain food items out of a plate that was the shape of a bowl. Maybe it’s their signature and sets them apart for being unique. I would still recommend despite my small nitpicking complaints. Good prices and parking is easy to find.

This little local restaurant was the best meal we had in Clayton GA! The food was delicious and service was fantastic! They close at 3 so make sure to get there early! The restaurant was clean and had a nice atmosphere for being a crowded restaurant!
