The atmosphere was amazing, even as people who don’t often visit English-style pubs/bars, we had a wonderful time in the lively environment. Staff were extremely friendly and made sure I knew what drinks were on draught/in the fridges.
The decor was phenomenal, historical and overall pleasing to look at.
10/10 will definitely visit again – the prices per pint was also quite good for London!
The first impression comes from the outside. The facade — proudly traditional and often richly decorated with flowers — immediately sets the tone. Simply standing across the street and looking at the pub is enough to create a sense of warmth and familiarity. It feels confident, rooted, and unapologetically itself.
Inside, the atmosphere is dense with character. Low ceilings, framed memorabilia and closely set tables create an intimate, enclosed space that feels alive with conversation. It is busy, sometimes crowded, but in a way that adds energy rather than discomfort. On colder days especially, sitting inside feels deeply comforting — like stepping into a well-worn part of London’s daily life.
What makes the Churchill Arms distinctive is its pairing of a traditional British pub with genuinely good Thai food. It is an unusual combination that works remarkably well. The kitchen delivers flavour and consistency, offering something far more memorable than standard pub fare, without trying to be fashionable or experimental.
The drinks selection is exactly what one hopes for from a proper London pub: good ales, dependable classics and no unnecessary complication. Service is generally efficient and experienced, well adapted to a mix of regulars and visitors.
For me, the Churchill Arms is about atmosphere and continuity. It is not trying to impress — it simply exists with confidence and character. It is a place I return to for the feeling it creates: grounded, familiar and quietly uplifting.
Fried rice was a bit wet in texture and too sweet in my opinion.
We went on a Saturday night and was busy, which was likely why I didn’t feel welcome to stay for long and felt like we were rushed to pay and leave.
Would I come again? Not worth making a trip, but if nearby in the neighbourhood, yes. Overall 7/10
Note: food does not contain peanuts at all
Remember to book as it is always full.
It truly is beautiful and interesting to look at inside and out, but like my friend said, “What is their theme? It’s like they just did all of it!”
From the outside, it looks beautiful because it’s covered in flowers.
When you walk inside, there’s a bar and there’s British flags hanging from the ceiling and Winston Churchill art on the walls.
I said, “Now this is a proper British pub!”
And my friend who is British said, “This is a British pub that’s gone over the top!”
I read that this is actually one of the oldest pubs in London being established in 1750, and was frequented by Winston Churchill’s grandparents who the pub is named after.
I had made a reservation for dinner, so we were led to the back where there were Thai flags hanging from the ceiling and plants as well, to the point it looked like a jungle.
The dishes were all Thai and I read that this is one of the first restaurants to serve Thai food in London in the 1990’s, and it all started with a chef who was Thai.
I ordered vegetarian pad thai. It was good, but more noodles than vegetables.
The price and portions were reasonable.
Overall, this was a good experience that I’d recommend.
