Last night my family and I dined at The Choptank in Baltimore, and our experience was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment we were seated, Layla, our waitress, delivered beyond outstanding service. She didn’t just take care of our table—she elevated our entire evening.
Layla went above and beyond in every way. Her recommendations were spot-on, her energy was warm and genuine, and she made our dinner celebration truly unforgettable. It’s rare to have someone who is both knowledgeable and incredibly attentive, and Layla delivered all of that and more.
The food was phenomenal.
• Chilean Sea Bass – cooked to absolute perfection.
• Tom’s Oysters – delicious with the perfect touch of saltiness.
• Pan-Seared Catfish – tender, flavorful, and melted in your mouth.
While I’m not usually a big fan of their drink menu, Layla once again came through with amazing drink recommendations that made the night even more memorable.
Thank you, Layla, for an exceptional experience! I’ll definitely be returning—and I’ll be asking for you!
The bartender was fantastic friendly, attentive, and clearly knew her stuff. It was happy hour, so I ordered a peach tea crush and my friend got an orange crush. She even asked whether we wanted soda water or Sprite, which is such a small detail but something I’m never asked and it made the drinks even better. Both were absolutely delicious.
Now let’s talk food, because wow.
I ordered the half & half soup (half Maryland crab soup, half cream of crab), and it was hands-down the best crab soup I’ve ever had. I’m not exaggerating it was rich, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. So good that we later came back for soup to go, and then also DoorDashed soup that night because we realized we were going to want more. That should tell you everything.
I also got the lobster roll with crab and bacon fries, and I’m still thinking about it. Unreal. My friend ordered the pan-seared rockfish with loaded mashed potatoes, and her meal was just as incredible. Everything came out fast, hot, and beautifully prepared.
The restaurant itself is gorgeous clean, comfortable, stylish, and welcoming. Every staff member we interacted with was helpful and kind, and the whole experience felt effortless.
Yes, prices are a little on the higher side but this is seafood, and nothing felt shocking or out of line for the quality you’re getting. Completely worth it.
What really blew my mind was that when we stopped back later, it still wasn’t busy maybe 10-20 people total, on a Thursday night in Fells Point. Absolutely baffling.
Bottom line:
This place is now a mandatory stop anytime I’m in Fells Point honestly, probably daily if I’m in the area. Incredible food, great drinks, beautiful space, and top-notch service.
If you’re skipping The Chop Tank, you’re doing it wrong.
Thanks again Xavier!!!!!
Our server Tyler was honestly one of the highlights of the night. He was super friendly, attentive without hovering, and made sure everything went smoothly. He really helped make the birthday feel special and memorable, which we appreciated a lot.
For food, we started with the oysters, which were fresh and really good. We also ordered the wagyu meatball, and those were probably my favorite super flavorful and cooked perfectly. The crab cakes were another standout, lots of crab and not too much filler, just how they should be.
Overall, it was a great night with good food, a fun atmosphere, and excellent service. Big shoutout to Tyler for making the experience even better. Definitely a spot I’d come back to, especially for another special occasion.
