Fantastic experience at the Cellar Door! We were greeted by the manager the second we walked in and he accommodated a group of 8 even without reservation.
I was impressed by the wine menu, but decided to order a a few of their unique cocktails. Their frozen Rose and Tequila Mockingbird drinks were lovely. We got the charcuterie board, hush puppies, shakshuka, and Korean chicken sandwich for the table to split family style. After dinner, half my party left to get back to the Chicago suburbs and the other owner gave the rest of us a tour of the building. Rich history there, love the accolades to the restaurant’s origin shown in photos around the front bar.
Our bartenders were awesome! I forget their names, but one guy was super knowledgeable about various cocktails and the other woman had great, friendly energy.
We had a beer in the arcade room and then later sat down at the front bar for a Philly cheesesteak. Great selection of aperitifs too. Then we moved to the outdoor patio to enjoy chocolate basque style cheesecake. It blew my mind! One of the owners told me they bring someone local in just to make desserts alone. The love she puts into the desserts really shows.
By the end of the night I realized we’d been there for over 5 hours! Good addition to Michigan City, honoring its history and elevating the downtown food scene.

The hush puppies were out of this world crispy outside, soft inside, and packed with flavor.
The chicken tenders were huge and perfectly cooked crispy and juicy, not dry like most places. And my husband said his burger was delicious
They also have a great beer and wine selection. Local beers on tap, great cocktails.
This is a hidden gem and lucky to have this place in Michigan City! Our new favorite date night spot.

Delicious, scratch food is rare to this area. Don’t skip this place! I’ve been beyond impressed with every visit here. The food and cocktails are out of this world. And there is an amazing team behind it all. Butter chicken and chicken tinga sandwich are pictured and are on special for the season. Other honorable mentions are the bahn mi, Korean fried chicken sandwich, hush puppies, and cheesesteak. Support your local small businesses!!! We need places like this around for a long time.

The drunken noodles, packed with flavor that enhances evwry bite.. The butter chicken is indian inspired but not super overpowering heat… the Philly cheesesteak, was stunningly good… it is not the chopped up version that I generally like but rather super shaved and melt in your mouth tender sirloin… with the sweet cherry peppers and provalone…. The fries are perfectly seasoned with the right amount of course salt, and a hint of spice.. non overbearing in any way… the hush puppies ( phenomenal) DREW. The head chef has brought so much experience into this joint… this is a 5 star experience.. all the way… the prices are incredible.. this is a high high end experience with moderate pricing.. I would pay twice the amount.. defiantly will be back!!

We had dinner and drinks and loved it. Strong local beer lineup, well made cocktails, and a solid wine list. The food was excellent and the vibe is warm. The space flows well, so it’s easy to hang out. They created a space that would be great for a dinner date or to watch the game on a Sunday afternoon. I’m really impressed with the versatility of the place.

The place seemed small at first, but I love that if you kept going back there was an additional room with a bar. I felt more comfortable and relaxed in that less crowded atmosphere. I decided to try the carrot cake, and I am glad I did. I haven’t had a piece of carrot cake that good in a while. I will def want to go there and try some of the entree’s. All the food looked and smelled amazing

A hidden gem in Michigan City! As a life long resident of Michigan City I can honestly say this is as good as it gets. The food is fresh, delicious and very affordable as well as the drinks. The service is professional and top notch. The atmosphere is comfortable and inviting. If you haven’t been, you are missing out! The cheeseburger I had was an imitation of a Big Mac done to perfection with fries for only $15. I enjoyed my Big Mac on steroids with a 25oz ice cold draft for only $5.

My client recommended I go here for “chicken tenders that were so good she cried” and “immaculate vibes and drinks”. Naturally, we got chicken tenders for the table (incredible, tears were shed) ordered a variety of cocktails, all of which were great and creative. I love when a cocktail is balanced and comes in the correct glassware. Also having Malort shots and PBR and Old Style on tap, IYKYK. We got a bunch of different food from the drunken noodles, the pork curry katsu special and the butter chicken, ALL were phenomenal. I love when a place has a “cool bar where cool people hang out” feel but elevate their food. It’s hard to find a place in NWI that has variety and “bowls”. The server was so freaking nice also. OH and the music was super fun. Excited to go back!
