We ordered the Braided Pork Belly to share as an appetizer. This came with kimchi pickles on the side, which was a nice touch of vinegar to contradict the sweet, fatty flavor of the pork belly. The pork belly was braised in a honey bourbon soy glaze that was crispy and caramelized on the outside, yet the pork was juicy and fluffy on the inside. This was hands down our favorite part of our meal!
We also had four slices of garlic bread brought to us. This was a pre-buttered and seasoned french bagette and was toasted to a crispy, but not hard, texture. It was pretty tasty.
I ordered Dad’s Meatloaf for my entre. This was served with cooked beets with a blue cheese melted on top. I absolutely do not enjoy either beets or blue cheese. However, I sampled both and can at least attest that the beets were cooked properly. Alongside the beets were fried golden potatoes. I’m not sure what they were fried in to give them the deep red color, but they were well seasoned and soft, but not quite mashable. I enjoyed them by themselves. The meatloaf was moist and adhered to itself well. This was listed on the menu as containing Angus Chuck, bacon, and sausage. It contained plenty of fat to keep it moist and prevent crumbling. However, were I blind folded and asked to taste it, I would tell you it was Andouille sausage. Thankfully, I happen to very much like Andouille sausage. I could not see or distinctly taste any bacon. Perhaps it needed more bacon? However, it was very dense and obviously protein packed and therefore fulfilling.
My birthday guest ordered the special of the night, which was the Sea Bass with vegetable puree and polenta. The vegetable puree was flavorful in its own rite, and I found in sampling it that it had a warm, hearty sense about it. The polenta was warm, moist, well adhering to itself, and had decent flavor to itself. It had a nice crust to it as well. The Sea Bass was seared very well and had a nice char to it, yet the flesh inside was moist and supple. A couple bites of fish had a really mild fishy taste, but for the most part, the fish was as one should expect (not gamey or fishy). The Sea Bass was very hearty and meaty and we were served a very good portion size.
For dessert, we had the Chocolate Decadance flourless cake. This is one of my favorite desserts, so I was happy to see it was offered it. This variation uses dark chocolate and ganauche with a raspberry drizzle. I’m not a raspberry fan at all, but I found the sauce very pleasant. I was also surprised that, due to the use of dark chocolate, the cake was not at all rich. Many restaurants serve extremely rich (read, super sweet) flourless cakes. This was a dark chocolate fans delight. It was creamy and smooth without the sugar gut bomb to follow.
The second dessert we ordered was the Peach Melba. This is, essentially, peach slices with vanilla ice cream, berry sauce, with whipped cream and pecans on top. First, they obviously used a good vanilla bean ice cream. Secondly, the peach slices were sweet but not limp and soggy like you find in canned peaches. The whipped cream was light and lacked the overly sweet nature of canned cool whip. For the $8 dessert charge, this can easily be shared by two people!
Our server, Alyssa, was very professional, and we were well served.
In total, we spent $128 after the tip to celebrate a birthday. While we do not eat like this normally, we are very glad we treated ourselves and tried Catered Table. It was worth the time and money for the occasion!
We ordered the bourbon soy glazed pork belly as our appetizer. We ordered the shrimp scampi, and that night’s special, a braised short rib over a creole sauce with wild rice and a white chocolate cranberry creme brulee for dessert. I ordered the Black Pearl red wine and just had to order a second glass. The food was incredible, and the portions were so perfect! It was a little more pricey as meals go but not break the bank insane… and WORTH EVERY PENNY. This place will not disappoint!
To add to this review of 4 years ago. Wow. Every time we go back here, and it often, we are amazed at the amazing establishment and the dining experience we will enjoy and do enjoy. Personally, my absolutely favorite choice of Restaurants, here in Montana! 10 stars! The atmosphere is nice and quiet. The service was absolutely flawless and she was so professional and personable. One of the top 3 in the county or maybe the best in the valley! Tremendous wine collection as well at very respectable prices. You owe it to yourself to try The Catered Table. Make reservations as well.
What an amazing find. Had an amazing meal! Best salmon I had in years, and I was just up in Alaska!!! Their wine selection was amazing as well. I would compare to the Pearl or better and 1/3 the price! Great service and just awesome. One of the best meals I ever have had in my 14 years here in Montana! I am orginally from NYC and know great food. Can’t wait to go back!
I will not hesitate to dine here again. However, I will avoid the mashed potatoes next time.
Oh yes, we also shared the Cherry Tart with Vanilla ice cream, made with Flathead Cherries, and it was delicious.
