Nice little cafe, bakery, coffee shop located right next to CNU college in Newport News. food and drinks are tasty and service was excellent. Open at 7:30 recommended you come by and grab a bite if you’re around they also have beer, lunch and dinner! Btw the breakfast quesadilla is pretty big you could share it with someone if you’re not too hungry.

What happened to your eggs?!!! They used to be so good now they are dry and rubbery and even the yummy hash brown casserole was dry today! Even the grapes were mushy!! We order from here often from our office and the food seems to be going downhill. One coworker didn’t even get her food today. Not sure where the quality check got lost but this will probably be my last time eating here for a bit unless things improve which I hope they do because I love supporting small businesses but the last few times were not good sadly!

The food is great! The coffee seems way more authentic than Starbucks, fries are perfect, and menu items are priced appropriately for the size and quality. The staff was very friendly. They have couches and different sizes and height tables. They have games and books avaliable while you’re there. Food came out very quickly too!

There are two things that a cafe needs to stand out: A design aesthetic that captures its personality of what it wants to convey and fast service for food & drinks.
The Captain’s Den meets both perfectly. I got the Waffle Breakfast Sandwich, one of the many unique sandwich choices they offer on their breakfast menu. It was a great amount of food for $10+ dollars around here — at least based on my experience.
I recommend the cafe and the waffle sandwich. If you are craving something more like a lunch or dinner meal, there is another menu that offers a bunch of choices that fit those needs.

We were out of town and looking for a breakfast place the day before Thanksgiving. Every place we went to was closed. We found this place across from Christopher Newport and decided to go here. It definitely has a college atmosphere, but the food is delicious. Several of us got the breakfast platter, which consisted of scrambled eggs, Texas toast, potato casserole, and bacon. My daughter got a croissant sandwich with sausage and egg. They have a wonderful coffee section, and the coffee drinks were wonderful.

I absolutely love the Captain’s Den; the atmosphere is always so welcoming and fun. The food is amazing, the board games make it such a great place to hang out and laugh with friends, and the music is totally my vibe. It’s just one of those spots where you can relax, enjoy yourself, and make the best memories.

I went with 2 friends for one last brunch before the new year. And we were all pleasantly surprised by this place! They offer breakfast all day, but their lunch menu is awesome as well.
I went with the lunch menu. I got a 2nd Breakfast Burger, and a Snickers Latte. Both were very good! The latte I had to keep mixing cause of the chocolate syrup at the bottom, but I expected a Snickers Latte to be on the sweet side. The 2nd breakfast burger was so good! I feel like I could add avocado/Guac to this and it would be perfect.
One friend got a Cinnamon Roll, the Cheddar & Onion Smashed Burger w/Chipotle Mayo, and a Cappuccino. She enjoyed everything and said it was all really good.
My other friend got a Honey Do Latte with an extra shot, and a CNU Patty Melt. She also said her coffee and melt was very good.
We were all really surprised at how good everything was, and all the staff were super nice. They even give punch cards for coffees and burgers. I definitely did get one for burgers because I LOVE FOOD. I will be back to try all of the burgers ♀️

Very neat coffee shop. The muffins are reasonably priced and delicious. The coffee choices available are great. I enjoyed their iced tea. The French fries are hand cut and amazing! Glad we tried this place.

I ordered through DoorDash. The food was AMAZING!! I got the S’mores Latte, the Reuben Sandwich, and the chicken tenders with fries. The next time I get food from here, I’m going to sit inside. I’m sure the atmosphere and service would match the great food! We live in Hampton so it took awhile for the food to get here, but everything was packed nicely and the food was still mildly hot when we got it!! That was the best Reuben sandwich I had in a long time!! The chicken tenders were nice and crusty on the outside, and tender on the inside. The hand-cut fries were delicious!! The S’mores Latte tasted awesome, but I know it would’ve tasted more like s’mores if I would’ve gotten it at the actually facility. I would recommend going here 100%.
