Rated against other “canteens,” concessions, eateries, and grab and go lunch establishments, I give this 5-stars. It is a clean, bright establishment with a bredth of options exceeding expectations.
The Canteen honors uniquely regional fare such as buffalo burgers and Huckleberry ice cream. But caters to the well traveled adults with new experiences like “hard” milkshakes. Side options from fresh fruit to French fries, soup, and tater tots provide above average flexibility, and the food is served with quality ingredients and thoughtful presentation.
Restrooms, latrine, and heads are some of the cleanest, well-kept facilities on your road trip stop.
Don’t miss out on lunch here after your morning studies in the museum.

Very impressed!! We were visiting the military vehicle museum and paused for lunch at The Canteen. We walked in expecting a fast food type place, but it was actually a pleasant upgrade. We ordered, waited no more than 5 minutes, and were eating. Very nice presentation of food and LARGE portions! Lunch Special was a Chili Dog, with buffalo chili, and macaroni salad. We also ordered a loaded tots and grilled cheese with DELICIOUS homemade chunky tomato bacon soup. Everyone loved their food. Beer and bottled pop was $4. A $60 lunch for 4. Very friendly service!

Service was great, very friendly and helpful.
Ordered the Cinnamon roll bites, turned out to bigger and better than I expected. Crunchy yet soft cinnamon rolls, amazing drizzle and topped with bacon. Amazing!

Food was good, fresh and affordable. Cashier made a couple mistakes but the kitchen was more than happy to fix the fault. Good spot, adjacent from the museum. Nice place to visit when in town and want something other than the in-town options. And it’s a good spot to stop on your way into town.

Every time I am able to make it to Dubois, I visit the National Museum of Military Vehicles. This particular time the museum hosted our meeting space. I had the privilege to eat at the Canteen for lunch both days.
Being disabled, the staff was very accommodating and brought the food to my table.
Secondly, the first day I ordered my food with my last name, I also had a name tag on, but the second day, I didn’t have my name tag and the staff member, Derek, asked if the order should be under, “Scott”? I was impressed at how purposeful the staff is at even remembering customers names, not even knowing if they will be back any time soon.
I will most definitely be back, even though I live over 5 hours away!

Great breakfasts and friendly staff! Especially recommended if you are en route to or from Dubois. It’s easy to miss but there is an entrance before the main gates to the Museum. No baked goods but a nice choice of cooked to order items.

Go somewhere else. Food fell apart as we were eating it. Burger wasn’t very good. Fries were undercooked and had no flavor. Ice cream tasted…fake? Knockoff? Cheap? Idk but not good. Neither my wife or I enjoyed anything about the is place. Overpriced as well but, these days…what ain’t?
