We came for an early dinner tonight. I don’t often eat much in one sitting – typically pick like a bird. My husband and mom could not believe how much of my plate I ate. Then, I finished what I took home the second we got home The food was amazing- we tried almost everything. My husband had the wrap, it was phenomenal. We will be back again!

This place has excellent service and down home cooking. The Soulfood wrap with extra yams is top notch, so much flavor. The meatloaf tastes like your mom made it, tender and saucy. I like it and the pork chop smothered in gravy, but you can get it without. The collards are exceptional. The corn bread is soft with a slight crust and just a little sweet. And the banana pudding is so luxurious and just the right amount of sweetness.

The building is quite cozy and well kept. Our server was very friendly. The total cost for our meal was very reasonable. Everything was excellent. The smothered pork chop was very tender. I would definitely go back.

They decided not to serve meatloaf today. Tried the fried chicken, OVERLY seasoned and over cooked. Didn’t offer white meat. Only had thigh, wing and leg options. Asked for thigh and leg, got thigh and wing.
My go-to sides here are mac and yams. Mac was very disappointing today, watery almost mush, pasta itself were soggy, not much cheese flavor. I regular this place often, usually the food hits the spot but not sure what happened this time. Girl at the counter was new, never seen her before. Pleasant but service was shortcoming. Menu prices have increased, wouldn’t have minded it if the food I ordered was good. Only thing good were the yams. I will return again solely because I’ve had great meals here in the past..but today was NOT it. Also, dined in, the dining area lights were not on even though I came in 15 mins after opening hours and the ac was not on. It was 85 degrees today so

The Candied Yam delightful southern cuisine is my new go to place for delicious home cooked southern food in Grand Rapids.
Located on the south west side of town in a strip mall, it is a bit hard to find, but worth the effort!
We tried multiple of the meats and sides, and we’re not disappointed in any of them. I personally really enjoyed the ribs.

After a long week of driving on the road i stumbled across this hidden gem on Thanksgiving, and I must say I was impressed. The food was on point, and seasoned to perfection. The hospitality was excellent I’d recommend this spot to share with friends and family..
