The Butcher’s Son is our take on the Classic American Steakhouse. I’ve always loved the feel and different styles of steakhouses. Old Chicago-based steakhouses have that rustic gangster feel; and while New York City has that as well, it seems a bit nuanced by a Wall Street or Broadway type of influence. Down south you see the Plantation style Chop Houses with New Orleans architecture or the Miami ‘Copacabana’ feel. I love them all and I think they are all part of our American story. We want to be a part of that story.

Vibrant chophouse offering refined steaks, seafood & other classic American dishes in a chic space.

Lets start with Amanda the young lady who took care of my table. She’s so sweet and nice. I wanted to try some menu items ive never in life tried. I tried the calamari, scallops, oysters Rockefeller all of which took me by complete surprise. It didnt taste at all like what I was expecting. The fried calamari was seasoned to perfection and so crispy. The scallops were just damn good, good texture good flavor. The Oysters Rockefeller omg im officially sold now the bacon the cheese the flavor it all came together so damn good and now I want more. I also had the she crab soup, and that was delicious. Creamy buttery rich crab flavor and crab meat throughout the entire dish. I got the stuffed chicken with the fried Brussel sprouts and shrimp imperial. The entire meal was 5 stars. I had a very light breakfast just to have a big enough appetite to indulge for dinner. I ordered an amaretto sour and even that did not disappoint. I hope to visit VA beach again when it warms up and I already know I’ll be coming back to The Butcher’s Son for dinner.

Highly recommend this restaurant if you want delicious food, great service, and to support local! Melissa was an excellent server! She was incredibly friendly and attentive. We received wonderful recommendations for our first time visiting. She made us feel like home and relaxed while enjoying delicious food and a calming environment. We will definitely be back for the excellent steak and crème brûlée. We will also ask for Melissa again, couldn’t have had a better server!

I had heard really good things about this place and recently got to try it for dinner. We sat in a booth in the bar area and service was great. Their menu is quite large, with many options, not just steak. So many very nicely described seafood and other entrées as well.

I had a tough time deciding, but ultimately chose their “Steak & Cake” which was the 6 oz. sirloin and a crab cake. I got it with their horseradish mashed potatoes and cucumber salad. But first, I tried a small portion of their house salad. The salad was pretty good, but the cherry tomatoes in it all had the stems on the back – yuck! That stuff should be removed when cleaning the produce for salad prep. But the dressing and rest of the salad was nice.

The entrée was really good… the absolute best part of it was the crab cake – it was perfect! I’m from the Northern VA/DC area and am quite familiar with Maryland crab cakes and this was spot-on! Plenty of crab and very little filler and the flavors were great! The horseradish mashed potatoes were amazing too! They tasted great with each bite of the sirloin. I will say that you should never order sirloin at a steakhouse and that rang true here. The only reason I gave it a try is my local, amazing steakhouse (Fahrenheit 132) serves a Baseball Cut Sirloin which is outstanding and I had hope this might be similar, but this was the basic cut of sirloin – it was flat, a little stringy, and typical of a sirloin – it was lean and dense, thus not much flavor.

Overall, this was a decent visit and I’d most definitely return! I’ll try something different next time.

This was our first visit to The Butcher’s Son Restaurant in Virginia Beach. When we arrived, we were greeted with enthusiasm by the receptionist. Amanda was our waitress and gave exceptional service. Also, we had another lad come to check on our service and food. We ordered the Farmhouse Stuffed Chicken dinner. The food was also excellent. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and plan to return on our next visit to the area.

I had such a great experience here! I needed a place to host a party of 15+ for a celebration and I am very glad I found this place. The service was absolutely amazing and the area was put together so nicely. We had the most amazing server that serviced all of my party! She did such a phenomenal job! She was very polite, attentive, and friendly! Now the food was great as well, especially the rolls! Delicious! I ordered the farmhouse chicken dinner and it was great. They give you large portion sizes for a reasonable price! We also ordered the appetizer seafood nachos which was very good! It’s most certainly enough to share! I highly recommend dining here!

I called the restaurant a little before 8:30 to make sure the kitchen was open since they closed at 9pm. No one bothered to answer the phone. My son and I arrived at 8:33 to have dinner for a special occasion and the hostess told me the kitchen was closed. I very politely explained the situation and the hostess reluctantly went to the kitchen only to very quickly return and tell me the kitchen was closed. Really? A half hour before closing and we were 3 minutes after when we arrived at your strip mall bistro. I’ve eaten at far better restaurants. Highly recommend Gaston’s a short distance away who treated us politely and we had an excellent dinner. I won’t be back to try your food, the menu wasn’t phenom but it looked pretty good and I wanted a good steakhouse. Really..3 minutes after 8:30 and the kitchen was closed? You just didn’t want to work and closed the kitchen early. I gave you the appropriate stars THAT YOU EARNED. The food, couldn’t tell you but Gaston’s treated as just fine and our steaks were excellent.

Every dish we tried was packed with flavor and beautifully presented—clearly crafted with care and culinary skill. The ambiance was cozy yet refined, creating just the right backdrop for a memorable meal. While the prices are on the higher side, the overall experience more than justifies the cost. If you’re looking to treat yourself or celebrate something special, this place is absolutely worth it.

Our server Dan was amazing.. he was attentive, but did not make us feel rushed.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at The Butcher’s Son Chop House, and it was nothing short of extraordinary! From the moment we walked in, the ambiance was warm and inviting, setting the stage for a memorable evening.

The menu offers a fantastic selection of expertly prepared cuts of meat, cooked to perfection. I opted for the ribeye, which was tender, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned. The sides were equally impressive

Service was impeccable; our server was attentive without being intrusive, knowledgeable about the menu, and made excellent wine pairing suggestions.

Overall, The Butcher’s Son Chop House exceeded all expectations. Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or just in the mood for an outstanding meal, this is the place to go. We will definitely be returning soon!

Our company hosted our end of year Christmas dinner in their private dining room, The Jackson, at the Laskin Rd location! The online reservation process through the restaurant’s website and email communication with the Director of Marketing + Events, Shannon, was easy to set up and coordinate what we needed for our event! Upon arrival, the hostess was very friendly and personable, and we were quickly shown to our room!

Everything from the decor and ambience, to the libations and fare, was beautifully curated! We appreciated the special care given by the wait staff to ensure our little party felt welcome and joyful throughout the evening! There was even a classic holiday movie playing on our very own flat screen TV!

We would definitely love to entertain here again, and highly recommend this fabulous restaurant for any special occasion and sized gathering (they have 3 spacious intimate private dining rooms – 2 in Virginia Beach and 1 in Chesapeake, that vary in size and seat up to 50 guests!), or simply a nice night out on the town for a delicious meal!

Thank you again for a resplendent evening!
