My partner and I reserved a table here for 8pm on Valentine’s Day. It was busy due to the Holiday, There is a parking lot across the street, or paid side street parking. 15-20 min wait for the reservation, hour wait for the food. we were later in the day so they were out of the desert I had asked for. Food was wonderful. For smaller parties they have cubby areas so they offer more privacy. We were sat in a bit of a darker atmosphere, which I enjoyed, they had an actual flame candle lit.
Our waitress didn’t refill any of our drinks for the entirety of our stay, going on two hours, I had placed the cups towards the edge of the table to show the were empty . I had also asked one of the hostess where the restroom was. She stared at me for about ten seconds, then turned around and started speaking to someone else. I stood there till another hostess pointed out the restroom around the corner from the hostess stand for me.

I really hate to give a businesses a low star rating especially since this place has been in business since 1972 but I don’t think I will do any damage to their reputation. The place is lovely, the service is great no complaints there but the food is bland and tasteless. I spent $50 on a spaghetti and meat sauce and an order of manicotti which was two shells, I’d been better off getting a couple of cans of chef boyardee the supermarket at least I know what to expect. I’m from Brooklyn, I’m a trucker, a cook and a fat boy so I know good food and where to get it from and this place ain’t it. The service again was superb, bar tender poured stiff drinks and the price for that type of establishment is fine The food just sucks.

The Waterloo Brown Bottle is a Waterloo staple for a reason. Consistent great taste, top notch service, and an excellent atmosphere, whether it is a special occasion out or just a night out, they’ve got you covered. The Spaghetti with Meat Sauce is my personal favorite and their garlic salad dressing is wonderful. Be sure to save room for the Brownie Pie.

Very pleasant experience.

Can’t give it a 5-star as everything was well above average but not excellent. The salciccia was our favorite item.

I would definitely go again if back in Waterloo.

My husband and I booked one of the private event rooms to have a dinner to celebrate getting married with our families in Iowa. The process to book the room was straightforward and well laid out. It made it easy to make selections based on our party needs. The staff serving us were attentive and on top of everything the whole time, and all the staff was incredibly professional and helpful. Everyone’s food was delicious. Would highly recommend booking here for an event.

Definitely disappointed. Our appetizers were the best part. My fettuccine Alfredo was a heaping pile overcooked noodles and bland chicken pieces. My fiancée said her manicotti was oily. I don’t expect my family to return.

I stopped for a piece of cheesecake to go and the hostess referred me to the bar to order. Bartender did not know what the seasonal option was so I had to ask her to go check. Then after learning it was a flavor I did not care for I asked for a piece of normal cheesecake and mentioned seeing cherry cheesecake on the menu. She said that was fine. Well instead of putting on the cherry topping she used the bar Maraschino cherries and then dumped some of the liquid from the jar on the cheesecake. Was not pleasant to eat and not worth the $10.

Great low lighting atmosphere for a calm meal with your significant other or date. Food is always great. Servers are all timely and not overbearing. Perfect setting and experience every time.

Had supper with friends from Cedar Rapids at this establishment. From being greeted by a great waitress, beginning with a drink, to a fantastic meal, to an equally fantastic dessert, this was 5 stars for sure! Salmon, prime rib and two spaghetti and shrimp dishes with plenty of bread crumbs and parmesan cheese, the 4 of us were members of the “clean plate club”! Prices are very competitive!

Stopped in as I was back in Waterloo for the first time in many years and the ambiance and food haven’t changed, which is a good thing. Food was delicious, server was attentive and pleasant. Only issue was the ticket time was a tad long but they did have a big group dining and several other tables when we walked in. Glad to see the Brown Bottle is still thriving after all these years.
