I got the Veggie Naan sandwich with red pepper hummus delivered. It was so delicious! I am a very picky vegetarian. This sandwich is FIRE! So good! Was so happy to see a real vegetarian option and not the typical junk other restaurants offer as vegetarian meals. Highly recommend! I will definitely be ordering this meal again!

This is a charming bistro in downtown Alton, IL with a cozy interior and large outdoor patio as well. The sandwiches here are among the best I’ve ever had. Granny’s grilled cheese is my favorite! 3 kinds of cheese, thin sliced apples and an amazing brown sugar aoli – perfection! But you can’t go wrong with any of their sandwiches. If you haven’t been, it needs to be your next lunch out.

This is a great lunch or snack stop. I had the granny grilled cheese. It’s Granny Smith apples in a sourdough grilled cheese with a brown sugar aoli. I also had the lobster bisque which was great paired with the sandwich.

A great place with amazing food! My first time trying I decided on the Italian Beef sandwich and I’m glad I did because it was delicious. The bistro has a great selection of sandwiches, soups and salads etc. Would definitely recommend and I can’t wait for my next trip there to try another sandwich and maybe some soup!

Brown Bag Bistro is the best!
It’s almost always my families pick when we go to lunch in Alton. I’ve eaten around the menu & everything is soooo good! My ultimate favorite is the Bistro Club. Such a great sandwich ever. single. time.
I recently was helping plan a 30th birthday and needed a charcuterie board and immediately thought of Brown Bag for it. From start to finish Chris and the whole team were wonderful. The board was so good & we ate every last piece. Needless to say it was the talk of the party.
Highly recommend if you need catering for a party or need a great spot to eat in Alton!

Happy 7th Anniversary, to The Brown Bag Bistro. You are like a bottle of wine, you are getting better with age. In all honesty, you do deserve a 5 Star rating, but I’m holding back, because you do not offer a sandwich with pastrami and that is my all time favorite deli meat.
However, I will give a huge shout out for the, Sammy Roo (Reuben), The New Yorker (Roast Beef), Bistro Club and The Granny Grilled Cheese. All four of these are winners and big enough to share or to have leftovers for another meal.
Your salads are sensational, too. I’d be hard pressed to say which one is my favorite. Out of your five offerings, I’ve tried three. Your Spinach, BLT and Chicken Caesar are all top notch. Being a local concierge, I am always recommending your restaurant to guest. When I do, I always recommend ordering a sandwich and salad to share. That way they get a sampling of both.
I’m old school and not a real fan of order at the counter and take a seat. Times are changing and I am adapting. Your staff does a good job of offering this type of service. The cashier is always friendly and takes orders as if she were standing table side. Then when the runner brings the order, they are equally as professional and friendly.
In closing, I’ll say BBB is top-notch and is a must visit when in Alton. I just wish they offered pastrami.

Stopped by Brown Bag for a quick lunch To-go. The food was excellent and the employees were very friendly. We got a Rosie Roo (Turkey- Ruben) and the Adamo with Mac n cheese and a side house salad. Everything was excellent. 10/10 recommend!

Didn’t know the ham and swiss had strawberry jam. Was freaked out by the weird flesh colored juice dripping out the end. Ordered to go, waited a decent amount of time. Not worth $15. Nice service and good intentions, but not what was expected.
