Our first visit to Castine. We were excited to check out Maine Maritime Academy for my son who is exploring higher education after high school next year. I found The Breeze while walking, looking for coffee and found a most glorious breakfast. If I do say so myself, I am the corned beef queen and when it comes to corned beef, I try it everywhere I go in search of THE BEST and I finally found the BEST I’ve ever tasted! The spices and essence put into even breakfast is just crafted perfection. This gem of nook has a truly unique blend of Hawaii and Maine so much so they even have reservations for breakfast! THE freshest food and with a hint of a taste of the islands and most pleasant, personable service chatting with the chef and her husband who have a deep-seated history as well, here in Castine and MMA. Plenty of friendly conversation and local suggestions to offer too at The Breeze. Snow, the chef, from Hawaii is an asset to Castine, truly brings a little piece of the islands with her and her craft in cooking to this cozy little corner of Maine. She and her husband and their food surely is a breath of fresh air. By the way, the seafood is fresh off the boats, sourced locally and everything is cooked and served with pride. We can’t wait to come back for lunch! Thank You. – Jen and Jackson

Really enjoyable meal in a charming corner location and excellent service. We were visiting and were so happy we explored this town. The maritime academy was nice as well as the lighthouse and views from the drive around.

I adore the Variety. Today I walked in and Snow already knew my order: coffee and blueberry pancakes. (Over the last decade, I’ve been in once or at most twice per year, so I couldn’t believe that she remembered it!) The pancakes were top-notch, as has always been the case. She also let me sample her kimchi, which was outrageous. This place is an absolute treasure.

Really cute and charming inside and really quick and attentive service! The food was so fresh and the seafood was tender and flavorful. We came for late lunch on Sunday and it was pretty quiet

Interesting cafe style restaurant with good seafood and sandwich choices. Lobster roll was excellent, loaded with lobster which was dressed with homemade mayo. Turkey & ham club was very tasty, also with homemade mayo, and a good portion of smoked bacon. Shared tables inside the restaurant part of a store. Hawaii themed decor, and pink Hawaiian sea salt as the condiment. Great lunch choice. Served by the owner who was very chatty.

The Breeze and Castine Variety Store had an old Maine charm to it. The sign calling it a restaurant is a bit misleading as there is limited seating available.
We arrived a bit early during the lunch hours, got seated quickly and enjoyed excellent service. My companions both felt their lunch choices, one a lobster roll and the other a cheeseburger, very good. My choice, the Deluxe Haddock was good but for the price a small portion of haddock smothered in lots of lettuce, tomato and bun.
There are no public restrooms inside. The closest are down the hill on the town wharf, not too far away but inconvenient.
I’ll definitely go again but order something different. It’s an enjoyable place to dine. The food is good and excellent service.

We were in Castine to enjoy my husbands 50th Reunion at MMA. A large group of us enjoyed lunch on Friday at the Castine Variety! The food is truly delicious, fresh, and a delightful surprise in an unlikely setting! We also, as a large group, enjoyed a fabulous dinner on the Saturday evening. Its BYOB, which is appreciated, and for those of us that cleverly ordered the SeaBass – oh wow! simply outstanding!
We all enjoyed several diffent menu items over the 2 days, including ordering a homemade blueberry pie to take home!, but most of all, we really enjoyed the hospitality and sheer talent of Chef and Kermit! Castine should be proud to show-case this establishment! We will happily return!
Thank you again, Chef and Kermit

On a work trip in Castine, we made this our every day stop… Warm attentions and I must congratulate the both the gentleman that runs the place and mostly the chef. She made the most delicious muffins and cinnamon rolls. Everything was expertly made. Thanks a million!

On a slow, off-season day we stopped in for fish and chips, to go (we ate at the harbor, sitting on granite blocks because the benches have disappeared). It’s easy to mess up fried fish, but the haddock was cooked to perfection in a crisp batter that was light, rather than overpowering the fish itself. The chips were decent.
This is all we ate, but it was good. The price tag is a little high ($21).

Good experience! We stopped in for a quick bite to eat! Loved the Philly cheese steak and grilled cheese after our time in Castine. Also purchased to large beautiful cinnamon rolls! Service was quick and very friendly!
