Save this spot on your GPS.

Visiting from South Florida, we were on our way to Helen, GA, we started looking for this spot that we visited a few years ago. It took us a while to find this gem again.

Don’t expect for the atmosphere to be an upscale venue. It’s decent, it’s cozy, it’s a family home business. Nonetheless, great food and served with love, and the biscuits, biggest I’ve ever had, so you can imagine my excitement when saw them for the first time.

I recommend it for a cozy stop while traveling to Helen.

Stopped in for breakfast and was not disappointed!! The biscuits were fluffy, the grits creamy and seasoned just right. The bacon was crispy and the country ham added the perfect Southern touch. Service was warm and welcoming and the atmosphere felt like home–cozy, relaxed and full of charm. A true taste of Southern hospitality from start to finish.

A very quaint and unique restaurant. The food was excellent, country cooking at its finest. Friendly attentive staff. Very good prices for the quality and serving sizes. The hamburger steak with grilled onions was extremely good, the veggies were fresh hot and perfectly cooked. The fried squash, fried okra and green beans were delicious.
The restaurant is located in a beautiful older home. Decorated with many unique items and to beautiful original fireplaces. I highly recommend it..!!

Just had one of the best meals I’ve had in a long time at The Bowman House in GA! I ordered the turkey and dressing, fried okra, and mac & cheese—with a homemade biscuit that tasted like it came straight out of Granny’s kitchen. Every bite brought back memories of Sunday dinners growing up. The food is made with love, seasoned just right, and served with true Southern hospitality. If you’re craving comfort food that warms your heart as much as your belly, this is the place. 10/10—can’t wait to go back!

The restaurant is a quaint old home place. I loved it! Service was great. It advertises country cooking and in that I was a little disappointed. I expected country home cooking. I ordered chicken & dumplings, Mac/cheese, grilled zucchini/squash and cornbread. My husband had fried chicken livers, french fries, Mac/cheese and a roll. The chicken/dumplings and zucchini/squash was great. The Mac/cheese was NOT homemade but dumped out of a can or box. My husband and I took one bite out of each bowl. It was not good at all so we did not eat it. My cornbread was very dry and just crumbled in little bits when u tried to take a bite. I took a tiny bite. My husband said the livers and fries were good. I did point out to the waitress that the Mac/cheese was not edible. She was gracious and took it off our bill. So all in all it was an okay place. Just don’t expect much home cooking like fresh home cooked rolls or macaroni/cheese u r not getting it there . I do recommend the chicken & dumpling those were homemade. We did not try any dessert.

Bowman House is my favorite place to eat in this area. I LOVE their chicken tenders. They will add lemon pepper spice on request and that takes them over the top. The squash and fried pickles are to die for. Recently went for breakfast and was super pleased at the selection, quality and prices. If you like down-home cooking, this is your go-to.

Inquired about the quality of the corn muffins from the server and was informed that she does not like corn muffins but prefers johnny cake( sweet cornbread)
I ask about the turnip greens(correction) on the menu, if they are made in house or from a can, and I am informed that they are “from a can but seasoned in house”.
The mashed potatoes were cold, and if you are serving mashed potatoes, don’t mix some real mashed with instant ones that is just nasty and lazy. The corn muffins by the way were very greasy, bone dry, inedible and who in the South serves any type of dinner bread without butter, well this place does! The server dissappeared after she dropped our food, I guess drink refills are unheard of as well. Atmosphere?? If you are interested in the conversations that are being had throughout the whole restaurant, well this is the place for you, because there is no other ambient sound. The “country fried steak” was from the freezer and then barely warmed in the deep fryer, again lazy!! The pride has left this establishment and so has the quality and potential that this establishment could have going for it. What an embarrassment to the Southern traditional cuisine, more to the point, what an insult to the people that are trying to patronize this establishment. Sub – par quality all around. Won’t be back!!

Stopped in here for a bite to eat, cute older home turned into a restaurant, a little dated inside on the decor etc. Our waitress was super sweet and helpful, not a ton of vegetation options but we made it work. The corn muffins are a must try!
